What are some of your recent comments/questions?

So ladies, I know we've talked about the common, "How are you feeling?" question and some others. But, I've been hearing a new one lately. Actually 3 times in the last week. It's "You look good." Usually happens at the end of the conversation, and I'm not really venting (since it is a compliment) but what are we supposed to look like when we are pregnant? Like we have the flu? Hahaha. What comments/questions have you been hearing lately?

  • The main one I have been getting is "how you are feeling/doing?" I got You look amazing last night...and got my belly rubbed but I went to college with her.

  • Today when I walked into work, "Whoaaa prego girl, you need a nap" I'm running on no sleep and plenty of morning sickness so I know I look like crap but really???

  • I get the "we can finally see your bump" followed by "you're looking good"...but I never know how to take it!  I know it's coming from a good place, but I've never felt comfy with people staring at me...particularly my tummy for that matter!  Guess I better get used to it! Big Smile

  • I've been getting lots of comments lately about how my butt has spread.  Thanks everyone.  My self-esteem is already at a low point.  Appreciate it. The security guard at my job had no qualms about sharing this with me.  He said, "I couldn't really tell you were pregnant.  You really don't look like it from the front...but from the back...yeah, you can tell from the back!".  I wanted to slap the smile off his face.

    OMG, seriously? How rude!

I've mainly gotten the "How are you feeling?" But ever since last week, I've also started getting the "Wow, you look pregnant now!" (my belly finally looks like a PG belly and not just chubby belly, lol.) This may have been emphasized by the fact that I started wearing maternity clothes, too.

First off I'm sure you look great!!! BUUT if you ever want to get back at him...one of my all time favorite lines was in a Sex and the City episode.  A dude tells Miranda to move her big butt out of the way, and Carrie runs to the rescue saying, she just had a baby, back off! What's your excuse, you having twins? The guy shut up...and a pretty sweet come back.

This came out wrong! I mean in the sense of being the center of attention for something like a wedding shower, baby shower etc.  When I re-read that I realized it sounded backwards to the way I meant it to be!!  This is also why I prefer to be behind the camera lens than in front of one!

  • I don't like "You don't even look like you're showing yet!"...

    Thanks?

Not sure how to respond to that one either.  I just smile.

  • I have been getting the "you look great!" comment a lot at work... it's nice but like OP, sometimes I wonder how I'm supposed to take it. Are pregnant women supposed to look awful and haggard? Or did I look like crap before, lol!

Oh well... I always get "how are you feeling?" and "have you been sick?" which I think is kind of weird... do you really want to hear about my morning sickness? At this point, I just say "I'm feeling pretty good now" which is true most days.

I did have a co-worker e-mail me a few weeks ago to ask if I was pregnant. She had been out sick for over a week and was not here when I was called out in a staff meeting (another story, but I had already told my boss and immediate co-workers and was hoping the news would just spread to everyone else... but the HR lady called me out in front of the whole staff that day!)

Anyway, I replied that yes we were expecting and she wrote back and said she just knew it because my face looked radiant. That made my day because I was feeling pretty crappy then!

I'm just bracing myself for the day when the rude comments start....
