Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Where does your baby nap?

So the first few weeks, DD mostly napped in our arms during the day. When we tried to lay her flat in the pack n play she would scream. The past couple days I have gotten her to take naps in the swing.  Just curious though what everyone else is doing.  Her naps are definitely not consistent yet..We have the rock n play for nightime..but would like to avoid having her nap in that too.

Re: Where does your baby nap?

  • Until last week, DD refused to nap anywhere other than in my arms.  The minute I put her down, she would fuss until she started screaming.  Last week, she decided her swing was an OK place to be, so that's where she's napping these days.  I know I'll have to get her out of that habit soon, but since her nighttime sleep (in her crib) is also irregular, I'll deal with the naps later.

  • Either the swing or on me. I might get 30 min. in the PnP or RnP some days but if I want him to have a decent length nap, I just hold him.

  • Right now LO is napping in her crib (for the 1st time...yay!!)  Before now the only place she would nap would be her swing or in my arms.

  • LO naps mostly in her bouncy seat.  She sleeps in RNP at night.  I've been trying to get her in the PNP but with no success.  It lasts about 5 minutes before she screams.  I did get her to sleep about 45 minutes in the crib a couple days ago.  Between the bouncy and RNP I'm afraid we'll have a hard time getting her to sleep on her back later on.
  • We transitioned to the crib (swaddled with a white noise machine) at 6 weeks and he's been napping there ever since.

  • He used to only nap on us, but I had to break that habit so I could get stuff done in the house! I put him in his PnP now. It took about 2 weeks for him to get used to the idea but now we dont have any problems.

  • LO naps in a bassinet.  It's the only place he will sleep during the day.

How did you break the habit? DS will only nap if he's being held but will sleep wonderfully [through the night!] in his crib at bedtime. I didn't mind him napping in my arms at first but I have housework to do; not to mention homework.
  • I'm so glad to read that my experience is normal!  DD will not take a nap in her crib or pack-n-play- it's either my arms or the swing.

Why do you want to avoid the rnp for naps?

I always try to put him in his crib for naps.  Usually we end up taking the morning nap together in my bed with LO passed out on my chest.  If he is only taking 30 min naps in his crib (like today), I will put him in the Moby to get at least one good nap.

  • Beside the point, but...  I really envy you ladies whose LO will only sleep in their arms!  From the beginning our DD was just fine in a bassinet or carseat carrier, but--convenient as this is--I wish that she demanded cuddles.  As an adoptive mom, I'm hungry for this sort of affirmation.  :)

  • He's fickle.

He can sleep in his crib, swing, bassinet, on a pillow in our laps, or on our chests.

He's been able to sleep in his crib from day one - but some days he will only sleep in our arms.

  • Being held in arms, on lap, or on chest (in wrap or on me if I am laying down). At night he's mostly fine in his crib, so it is fascinating to me that day is different.
  • She naps in her RNP and sleeps in her crib. She honestly seems to sleep better in the RNP, but we're tryiing to get her used to her crib...

For this child I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him.

  • Swaddled, in his crib, in our room.  He just took a 3hr nap from 10-1.  We have a wedge under the sheet because he hates being flat too (no reflux or anything, just hates it).  He has always slept in his crib except for when he falls asleep in his car seat in the car or in his bouncy chair, then I just leave him.

  • I feel pretty fortunate-LO sleeps pretty well without having to be in my arms. He regularly sleeps in his PNP during the day without problems. If he falls asleep in his swing, I will leave him there sometimes, too. We have tried the crib, but he doesn't last very long there.

  • DS naps in his crib during the day or i'll have him next to me laying on the couch. I haven't had a problem with putting him down after rocking him to sleep. Hopefully he stays that way.
  • In the swing or in the Babyhawk.

  • Our baby naps & sleeps in her swing.  She slept in the bassinet in her pack n play at the side of our bed for about 5 weeks and then all of a sudden she wouldn't sleep there anymore.  I took her out to the living room to nap on the couch while she was in her swing and she fell right asleep.  Every since then (about a month now) she sleeps in her swing.  During the day if she is already asleep I can lay her down in her boppy on the couch and she'll stay asleep.
  • Our little girl came home to a crib and has slept in it since day 3. Naps there and sleeps there. Does the same at daycare at our request

She's doing great at 14 weeks and has STTN since 6 weeks.

Averages 10-11hrs at night with 3 30-90 min naps during the day.

    We're just lucky, I guess!
