Come in if you go to Dr. Seeker...

I keep seeing his name pop up when people ask for recommendations.  In the near future I plan on trying to choose a new doc.  I typically only go to female gynos but it seems like you guys really like him so I might give it a go.

So, what are the things about him or his practice that are so great?  I saw some reviews online that said you have to wait for hours when you go in.  Is that always the case? What other good or bad do you have to say?

If you'd rather not answer on here, feel free to email nest.jess.o  @ gmail

Thanks

Re: Come in if you go to Dr. Seeker...

  • I think that Dr. S is a very, very nice man.  That said, I think that the wait alone would make me switch doctors.  I only saw him once or twice (he did my fibroid surgery), but holy eff, the wait was incredible.  Way too long.  I understand, a little, because when he is in the room with you, he will take his time and answer all your questions and whatever, but geez.  It gets to be a little much.

Also, I'm not a religious person and he made a couple of religious offhand remarks that I didn't like very much.  But whatever, he is a nice guy.

  • I've seen Dr. Seeker for going on two kids now, and the wait has never bothered me. The longest I've ever had to wait was about 50 minutes, and that was my very first appointment. After that, I just started scheduling all appts for the early morning and I haven't had a problem since.

Seeker is the most genuine, kind doctor I've ever known. He exudes calmness and sincerity. I have never once felt rushed in my appointments with him, which speaks volumes considering how popular the man is and how busy they always are. He also treats all questions as the most normal, rational question ever. Even all my really stupid ones.

His staff of nurses is just as kind, genuine and talented.

And, I'm not gonna lie, all the ultrasounds you get when pregnant is a big perk.  Standard procedure is to get an u/s at 8 weeks, 12, 16, 24, 28, and 36-on. And with my daughter, she was growing large, so I got ultrasounds through the early 30-weeks just to keep an eye on her growth. LOVED seeing my kid(s) so much!

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • On my phone, so this will be short, but I LOVE the office - super nice, clean, equipment is high tech, all that jazz. Love the nurses, one rubbed me the wrong way but I've only seen her once so whatever. Appts with NPs are mostly on time, appts with doc will run behind 30-45 min. I just come prepared with a book or whatever. I liked that the office didn't mess around - we'd been ttc for only a few months when I was up for my annual. The np found I have pcos-like symptoms and I was put on meds, none of this waiting a year stuff. I wasn't against meds so take that for what its worth.

This exactly! Minue the daughter part because I have a son. I just always schedule my appointments for first thing in the morning and I never have a problem!

  • Ok, I'm back - had to cut my other post short. The U/S's are awesome, so many more than other offices from what I've heard. And I was telling MH its nice in those early months when you don't feel the baby moving - seeing the u/s is reassuring. And we weren't expecting the 4d at our last appt, but they did it when normally its an extra charge and you have to go to a diff place. Anyway, enough rambling!

  • I go to his colleague, Dr. Uribe, who is in the same office.  I feel the same about Dr. U- he is SO nice, approachable, knowledgeable, down to earth, has a great staff and is all around fantastic.  He just seems so normal.  The wait is pretty bad as well (can easily be an hour from your appt time until you see him) but I guess I'm willing to tolerate it.
  • IDK, I seem to be in the minority, but I never thought the wait was SO bad.  I think the longest I ever waited was 90 minutes, and that was once or twice in the course of two pregnancies and a couple of m/c appointments before that.  An average wait was probably 45 minutes or so, and he and his nurses were worth every second of that wait - they truly, truly care about every patient they see.  I was always sure to book my appointments first thing in the morning or right after lunch, so maybe that helped?

Anyway, back to Dr. S - he's a calming force.  I was a nervous wreck when I found him (midway through my 2nd m/c) and he took the time to let me cry it out and express all my crazy fears and gave me back some of the confidence in my body that I was really lacking at that point.  He made both of my c-sections really happy experiences as well and I recovered amazingly fast, which I do attribute partly to his skills since so many of the nurses commented that if they had to have a c/s, they'd only have it with him.  He makes you feel like you're the only patient he's going to see that day and like you have his full attention for as long as you need it.  Nicest doctor I've ever met.

And yes!  The ultrasounds!  Amazing.  I know if/when we have #3, I'm going to miss that tremendously (we moved to WI last fall).

Ditto! (Minus the two kids)  I never minded the wait because I loved him and his office so much!  He was so supportive and calming, especially when things were scary, and willing to do anything to help!  Because my placenta was in the front, I never felt Adley move -- the entire pregnancy.  He offered to let me come in whenever I needed to see her to make sure she was ok.  He was wonderful with my c-section as well.

Also, I'm not a religious person and he made a couple of religious offhand remarks that I didn't like very much.  But whatever, he is a nice guy.

One of my good friends went to him for fertility issues and reproductive health concerns.  She was uncomfortable with certain religious things that he said, and she felt he was more concerned with getting her pregnant than making sure she was healthy (she felt treated as a vehicle for God's soldiers sort of thing).

On the other hand, I too have also heard women rave about him for years. I guess I've just never understood going to a male gynecologist or OB.

  • I saw him at the beginning of my pregnancy with Alex and I see him for regular GYN stuff. I think he's great if you're trying to get pregnant, and he is very nice. I don't mind the religious stuff.

I waited THREE HOURS for my first ultrasound when I was about 8 weeks pregnant with Alex. I have never waited less than 45 minutes for an appointment at his office. I was nearly halfway through my pregnancy before anyone bothered to give me the pregnancy booklet they give all of his patients, and it would have been nice to know in advance when I was going to see a nurse and when I was going to see an actual doctor. They also botched my early pregnancy bloodwork, and it never did get done before I left and went to a midwife at 24 weeks. This was around the same time his office was moving to their current location, so IDK if the move affected the quality of care that I was getting. I know others have had better experiences, so perhaps it was all move related or a fluke or something.

While I can understand that all of the u/s are great for reassurance, especially if you're a first time mom, I personally think he does too many of them. I had a complicated pregnancy the first time with prenatal care done by maternal-fetal medicine and perinatology (had Meredith in NC, not TX), and I probably had about the same # of u/s that Seeker does on all of his patients. I absolutely have concerns about the potential side effects of exposing a fetus to a lot of ultrasounds unless there's a really good reason for it.

Although I did leave his practice and go with a homebirth with a midwife, I do still see him for annual GYN visits, and if I had trouble ttc again, I'd definitely go back to him. I saw him for an annual not long ago, and he met Alex for the first time, well, since he saw him on u/s at about 16 weeks. It was worth the wait to see the look on his face when I told him how big Alex had been at birth. LOL. I had a very nice visit - as nice as one can have for an annual exam. Unfortunately his nurse insisted on giving me a prescription for a birth control pill THEY wanted to hand out, not what I wanted. What they gave me is $50 a month, and it took several phone calls to his nurse line to get my nice old generic bcp prescription.

Anyway, that was my experience, fwiw. I see him for regular stuff but I prefer a different experience for prenatal care and birth.

  • I started seeing Dr. S. after having trouble TTC.  After getting many recs from this board, I decided to check him out for myself.  I'm SO glad I did.  He is the nicest, most caring, gentle, sincere doctor I have ever met (and I've been to quite a few obgyns).  He helped us through some tough times, and when we finally did get pregnant, he and his nurses made the office visits during my pregnancy very worth it.  I have never had to wait a long time. No longer than 15 minutes most times.   I did have to wait ONCE 30 to 45 minutes, but again, that was just once, and it was a 1pm appointment and I was told that Dr. S had an emergency c-section to tend to upstairs.  I usually schedule my appointments around 9 am in the mornings.  I never feel rushed;  He takes his time and listens to my concerns.  I almost can't wait to get pregnant again, just so I can see him more often.

I've never heard him say anything religious, but if he did, it wouldn't bother me. I saw him for every appointment except for the ones that were marked 'nurse visit'in their pink pregnancy handbook  that they give you on your first visit. My overall pregnancy experience was lovely, and Dr. S made it even more special. We were unfortunate to not have him deliver our baby but we did see him a couple of times at the hospital and his collegue who did deliver our baby was also very nice.

He definitely is worth a try.

  • I'm a recent Dr. S convert.  I started seeing him in November, just for an annual, in anticipation of having trouble ttc #2 and because I was in need of a new OBGYN anyway after what I feel was a very disappointing birth experience.  His reputation as a fabulous surgeon precedes him and I expected I was either going to need another lap to fix the endo/blocked tube or a repeat c/s.

My first appointment I had to wait TWO hours for him, which I thought was ridiculous, but was expecting it.  I also really didn't have a choice on timing since I was a new patient and needed to get in for an annual.  We went over my history, the t-ttc, DD's birth, and he apologized for how my last dr handled things and agreed that it could have gone a lot smoother and SHOULD have, at that.  He even hugged me after the exam.  It seemed a little weird at the time, but that's just how he is.  He's THAT nice and sincere I think.

I've been in to see his NP Casey a few times now with this pregnancy and she's wonderful too.  She even snagged Dr. S after he finished up with someone to tell him that I was pregnant and he was so happy for me (cue another hug).

Overall, other than the wait time, I have had no complaints. I feel like I'm in a much better place than I was and should have made the switch years ago.  It was the wait time that made me drag my feet and just as everyone says, he is more than worth the wait.

  • I adore him. I switched to him after my first child and am *thrilled* with that choice. He is kind and he's a damn good doctor. His surgery skills alone make him worth it, but the personality, staff, and attentiveness are top notch. I plan to wait an hour just to get in and there was a time in DS's pregnancy where I was there for what seemed like forever because I wanted to wait for him and not the NP. To me, having to wait is 100% worth it for what you get in return. I have never felt rushed or put off and I've always been able to get in at the last minute when I needed to. I'm a big, big fan.
  • I see his partner in the same office, Dr. Phillips.  I really love him.  I am not one to wait around on doctors, I have things to do!  I love the staff, and it really seems that any Dr there is great.  I know Dr. Uribe from outside of the medical world, and he's also just a great nice person.  Dr. Phillips has been wonderful, he doesn't make me feel bad for having HPV (my last dr did) and his nurse called to congratulate me on my first normal pap in 3 years!  Nothing was wrong she just said I deserved a call for a congrats on that :)

  • I thirteenth all the good recs.  My DHs Aunt, who had TTTC went to him and raved about him and then all the positive recs on here is what made me choose him.  I saw him before I got pg with DS and you should have heard how excited he was about me just about THINKING of getting pg!

When he was back at his old office I think the wait times were worse.   My first appt at the old office with DS I waited 2.5 hours.  But I knew it would be worth it, and it was.  You completely forget how long you waited to see him because he's just that nice.

I haven't had to wait long to see him at the new office, though I've only seen him a couple times.

My pregnancy and birth with DS was picture pefrect and I credit him for all of it.  I always looked forward to my doc appts and he never did disappoint.  All the u/s sounds are awesome, he really wants to make you as comfprtable as possible during your pregnancy (and otherwise).

BUT, the reason I love him the most was how proactive he was about the tumor on my ovary.  It's hard to really see what's going on with cysts/tumors by just an u/s and he had a good idea what the mass was in my abdomen, but the characteristics it was presenting didn't add up and he didn't like it.  It was up to me to have the LAP done, but strongly encouraged me to do it because he didn't have a good feeling about it just being a tubal cyst.  It was a tumor and it was growing and had I not listened to him and done the surgery I might have lost that ovary and tube.  Not to mention all the mess of crap he found in there as well.  He was so kind and caring before/during/ and after my surgery and was very compassionate about my chemical pregnancy as well.  He was in the OR with me A LOT longer than he was supposed to and got way behind on surgeries that day, but he still took so much time with my family explaining everything he found and answering all their questions (and my mom was a nurse, so she had A LOT).

His NPs are all awesome, Jaki is my fav and I would switch sides for her.  ;)

He's wonderful.  LOVE him.  Best doctor ever.

Don't waste your time.  I've tried, she won't bite.  But, if she ever does, she's mine, so no sense in you going to all that trouble for nuttin'.
