postpartum question

Hey ladies,

I had my LO 2 + weeks ago and I'm having some extremely uncomfortable itching/burning down below.  This is my first baby so I'm completely clueless about this recovery process.  How long after you have the baby are you supposed to "pat" instead of "wipe" down there?  Any suggestions for the itching?  Should I call my doctor about it?  Any advice is appreciated :-)

Re: postpartum question

  • Oh my gosh.  I was going to post this same question!  I am thinking I will call my doctor later today about the itching.  I had a 2nd degree tear and still feel pain at times, have to wear a pad, and definitely cannot wipe properly.

  • Are you still wearing pads? I'm not an overly sensitive skin person, but for whatever reason, maxi pads when worn for more than a couple days really start to irritate me. I never, and I mean never wear them, and I remember the same thing happening with DS. The day I stop wearing them, I start to feel better. But before I get all red and irritated. SO if your still wearing pads, maybe thats it!

Pat instead of wipe I can't answer sorry! I'm a 2nd time Cseciton mama.

  • I just started wiping instead of patting a day ago. With the burning- it's not a UTI, is it? It's all exterior pain? Because if it's a UIT def see your doc. But if it's exterior, try witch hazel pads and keep that peri bottle with warm water. If it continues for another few days and doesn't seem to be getting better go see your doc, your stitches may have opened up.

this. also, i wipe very gently then use a feminine wipe (like baby wipes, i guess; they're in the same aisle as the pads/tampons) to clean everything up. the wipe helps, too, cuz it's kind of cold so it's soothing. i also change my pad every single time i go to the bathroom. hope this helps and you feel better!!!
