Hi! I'm new to this board, but I run a dayhome in Winnipeg. The majority of my information came from government websites - it's important to know the regulations for your area, with regards to licensing or going unlicensed. I do not go through an agency, and my dayhome is private/unlicensed. I've taken in 3 children full time (in Manitoba you're allowed 4 children under the age of 12, including your own, and 2 under the age of 2 without a license.)
I got most of my information regarding going rates, and what others in my area are offering just based on ads from other caregivers. Then, I took those ideas, and made them my own.
Some important things to think about are:
- How many children will you take in? What age?
- Do you plan on providing meals, snacks, drinks?
- Do you plan on having a curriculum to follow?
- Will you be doing daytrips, driving with the kids?
- Have you got proper home insurance coverage?
You could always check out www.daycarebear.ca to see what others in your area are offering. Kijiji is also helpful.
