3rd Trimester

GD diet- Waiting for referral...

Background - the lab phoned to say they or the outsourced lab lost 1 of my 4 tubes of blood from my 3hr. I past my fasting (1st draw) but failed my 1st and 2nd hr (post drink) draws. The lab said even if they had the 4th tube that because I failed 2/3 draws (post drink) that is an automatic failure of the 3hr GD test. I am going to be referred to a peri.

1. Would you demand to retake the 3hr? They have offered to test it in house. They send it offsite for insurance purposes but would be willing to do it there.

2. Until I have my peri and RD visit - would you eat the same, just cutting out the obvious?

I have a call into the nurse's line as this all popped up late evening. Just wanted to see if any GD gals had any suggestions. Part of me wants to retest - but then part of me just says go with the GD diet and let them monitor.

Re: GD diet- Waiting for referral...

  • Just do the diet.  The test sucks enough, and if you failed 2 you will probably just fail more now that you are further along.

  • Thanks :-) I just received my call back from the RN. The 4th tube did not matter as suspected. I don't mind the diet as I'm sure it is easy to follow once you learn the ins/outs. I do see it as "for the good of the baby" and myself so it's no biggie.

Just wanted some feedback while I was waiting.

  • Be angry, cry, mourn ... and then suck it up and do the diet. It's not as bad as you think and it will help keep your weight steady at the end. If you have to retake the three hour and fail again, you'll still be where you are anyway.
  • Really its not that bad. I promise. And you never know, a lot of GD girls go early into labor. (not super early but early, according to y doc)

Monitored GD is not really a bad thing - it's better for you and baby - and certainly better than being unchecked/unmonitored.
