Britax set up

So we just got a new Britax.  My husband installed it in my car but something just doesn't seem right to me with the buckle and harness.  The buckle comes really close to DS's crotch.  It just seems like there's no way he's going to be able to use this seat for as long as it says we can use it.  Also, the bottom portion of his harness that should go across the bottom of his torso actually goes across his legs.  Does this sound right??  It just makes me think that we should return it and get something else.

Re: Britax set up

  • We just got the Britax Boulevard and in theanual it has information on how to move the crotch part of the harness , althougt i think it cant be moved untill the seat is installed foward facing. i also found helpfull to remove the infant body pillow.

  • The lower part of the harness will go around the top of their legs. If your seat has an adjustable buckle, then your manual should say. I am not sure which seat you have, so I can't tell you whether or not it is. I have a RA 50 and I know that buckle is adjustable. I also have 2 Marathons, and they do not have adjustable straps.

My DD is 3 and still fits fine in her seat. I will look and see if I have a pic that shows the proper harness position. Also, if you feel you are having a hard time getting the harness tight, you can remove the HUGS, and then put them back on for forward facing. Just don't lose them, because they are required for the forward facing install but not for rear-facing.

ETA: Your harness is through the first slot (closest to the body) on the seat cover, right?

We have the Britax Boulevard CS.  I'm not sure we have multiple slots to put the harness through.  I'll have to look.  I think I'm going to have to take it out of the car and go over it with a fine tooth comb just to see how the sucker works!  Shouldn't a college educated person be able to figure these things out?!  Why does it have to be so complicated?

There are two slots in the cover, but my understand is that the second slot (the one closest to the front of the seat is for installing the seat belt over the cover instead of under. Confusing, I know. Your seat should have come with the harness installed in the correct slot. Let me see if I can post a pic of my DD in the seat when she was little. The harness will come across the top of the thighs.

Here is a link with a pic:

Here is my DD at 7 months in her Marathon. You can't really see because of the angle, but the harness definitely comes across the top of her thighs.
