Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Does the size of the pacifiers matter

My LO needed a few more pacifiers so I got him some today. He has a mix of 0-3 and 0-6 sized Avent pacifiers and he takes them both equally well, though we don't use the 0-3 much anymore. Today I bought him the 6-18 month size and he won't take it.

He screams if I try to give it to him, so I'm not giving them, but am I doing any orthodontic harm by giving him the smaller sizes? I'm mainly thinking of the 0-3 month size with this question, as he is just now 6 months old.

Re: Does the size of the pacifiers matter

  • The main difference I've found with anything below 6 months and above 6 months is that the 6+ has a bigger... bulb? and it goes in further. I assume it goes in further so it wont effect their teeth when they come in (since that starts to happen around now). I think that's the only orthodontic effect. lol But I really have no idea, just what I noticed. :]

  • Besdies the nipple being larger, the shield of the paci (the part that goes across the mouth) is also longer.

As babies grow, their mouths are larger.  You need a bigger shield size to be safer.

  • We use the avent paci too and whe i switch to the bigger size JJ was refusing them to , he was used to the smaller size but i still ofered them to him and not the small ones , after a few tries he got used to them and know he is ok.
