I am trying to make a couple of care packages for my cousin who is having a baby. One for her post delivery and one of all the little things she might need for the baby those first few days at home. So, I have two questions for you:
What did you need after delivery for yourself? I had a c section so I am totally lost at what she might need for a vaginal delivery.
What was nice to have for the baby once you got home? I know what my list contains but wanted others' advice?
Thanks!
Re: post delivery and newborn ?
Do you want "regular" stuff or TMI stuff? lol. TMI stuff would be pads, hemorrhoid cream, breast pads, nursing tanks, nipple shield, lanolin or mother's love nipple cream, petroleum jelly (if it's a boy and circumsized), Dermoplast (but I think that is prescription), Desitin, diapers, etc.
If you want "regular" items, I appreciated lots of snacky, easy foods. Sometimes I would be hungry, but not want to cook or warm up anything we have in the fridge/freezer.
both! thanks
With regard to "bottom care" the best thing I recommend is what my nurse taught me the 2nd time around. I had a REALLY fast recovery the second time and I credit my PP nurse with a good portion of it.
Take the large pad and line it with tucks pads (the witches hazel helps you heal), then layer it with epi foam (not sure if you can buy this) and then spray it and your bottom with dermaplast (this stuff is amazing). I didn't know to do this with DD#1 and it took me a long time to heal. I was sitting on wooden chairs with DD#2 only 4 days after having her.
So, your shopping list would be:
pads (get large ones and some smaller ones that will be good as things taper down)
tucks pads
epi foam (if you can get it)
demaplast (it's near the first aid sprays)
Give her a little card that describes the "salami sandwich" she's making.
Other than those things I'd do some granola bars, maybe some juice boxes and other small snacks that she can munch on while nursing/feeding the baby.
I think we had the same nurse
You don't need a prescription to buy Dermaplast. Buy the one with aloe.
I think you do need a prescription for epi foam.
Also, we didn't have enough hand sanitizer (Purell or something similar) at home, and DH had to go buy it because we used it a lot after cleaning the baby, before picking the baby up, etc.
