I had a good laugh today when I looked over the itemized statement from the hospital for my delivery charges. Thank god my insurance covered 100%, besides the usual expenses for the epidural, pain killers, cervital etc. they actually charged 2800 for "vaginal delivery" meaning they charged me that much for ME to push him out. I thought that was pretty funny!

Re: Hospital bill..
That would be funny to see!
In canada we don't see bills for doctors/hospital so I wouldn't know how much they even "charge".
Ha ha... nice!
I wonder if I will be charged more because I begged the doctor to stay in my room... maybe they will charge me more for the time she didn't want to be in there. (ds was born minutes later)
When I had dd, she stayed in my room. She never once went to the nursery. The first time she left my room was in her carseat when we left to go home. We still got a $600 bill for the nursery.... that she never went to! Good thing the insurance picked it up!
This. I wouldn`t have a clue.
I?m putting in two cents worth on this - ladies!
I?ve talked with the insurance specialist where I work a while back so I?d know just what I?d be responsible for paying out of pocket; she said I wouldn?t have a bill on any of either the hospital or doctors (OB/GYN) until we see the pediatrician for little one?s office visit at the two week check-up. That then would only be our co-pay which is $10.
I am however getting an itemized statement from the clinic, hospital and my insurance company so I know how this breaks down on this baby.
If you request them giving you an itemized billing statement they will do so. If you want one just ask for it. You might be surprised to see what is charged on your bill while in the care of doctors as well as hospitals and who puts in a bill to your insurance company for payment as well.
You can ask for one on yourself if you want even after you?ve gone home. Here I?d request one as soon as possible though so you know.
If your insurance company does not pay for certain procedures and you?re left with a bill to pay then go to billing department. Offer them a settlement on that account for a reduced amount - being sure you get a receipt marked paid in full for your records.
Yikes me too. Our insurance seems to cover less and less every new year. Can't wait for the bills to start rolling in.
I don't even want to know what my bill is going to be between the induction, failed vaginal deliver, emergency c-section, and then whatever it may cost for Isaac's 4 hour stay in NICU.
We pay 10% of everything
My hospital bill was a little over 6k, the epi was a little over 2k, still have not received DS bill but thankfully my primary insurance covers 100% and if they did not cover 100% I also had a secondary to help with the rest.
For those who have to pay high amounts and live in the US. Be sure to talk to your hospital's billing department about financial assistance. Some of them offer programs that can reduce what you have to pay even if you have insurance or will set up payment plan if you do not qualify. Just be sure to do it as soon as you receive the bill. Our department is far more willing to work with those who come in right away compared to those who take forever to contact us.
Yep I got a labor/delivery bill and the nursery bill.
