Parenting after 35

I am in trouble re: diaper sizes

"Size Five Diapers Sizing:Size Five Diapers are designed for kids 27 pounds and older. There is a size 6 and those are kids 35 pounds and over. Kids are generally 4 years and older and on their way to being potty trained with this size diapers. Some kids are bigger and must use this size diaper. Kids who weigh around 25 pounds but are only maybe 3 years old may still need to use the Size Five. Keeping up with the diaper sizes can be tough. If you notice, as diaper sizes get bigger the diaper boxes get smaller and more expensive. Potty Training may be your next step if your child is age appropriate." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, are you kidding me? I'm so screwed. Adrian is outgrowing his size 5 diapers and since they only go up to size 6 and he's only 17 months old, I'm either going to have to use homemade diapers or potty train before he's 2 yrs old. What the hell? Why don't they make bigger diapers, don't they realize the new generations are getting bigger and bigger? Wahhhhhhh!

  • I've seen size 7 on diapers.com, so don't despair.

Stella's been in size 4's for almost 2 years.  She weighs 28lbs, but I guess build has a lot to do with it, too (she's about 37" tall).

A lot of kids slim down quite a bit around age 2, so maybe the size sixes will last longer than you think :)

  • Yeah, I feel that pain!! I had that problem with all but one dks (E was "only" 75%). L was the worst...at 12 months he was 32 lbs, 33" tall...they didn't have size 6 then, I used packing tape to close the diaper!! That got frustrating quickly, so we used pullups...they weren't as absorbant then, I had to get up in the middle of the night to change him!

I need to size up S when I run out of 4's...the sides aren't meeting anymore and she's getting plumber butt. She's still about 2 weeks shy of 4 months!! 2 month stats were 16lb 11oz, 25"...she's definately bigger now...yikes!

My beef is as the sizes go up, the diapers get longer, not much wider. You know they make size 7? Says for 41 lbs plus...pullups are a good option too...

  • Wow, what a big boy!  Simon can still fit into size 3's!  Have you tried a different brand?  I find Pampers run bigger than Huggies.

    Crap!

Quite literally! I see cloth diapers in your future. You may just be pinning a towel around him!

  • Gibby has been in size 6 since he was 12mo old! He's VERY wide.  Good thing is from 2-3yr Griffin didn't gain any weight- he just got taller... i'm expecting Gibby to do the same.

You can start using pullups when size 6 is too small.  That's what we did with Griffin, from 2-3yrs... then he was PT'd the week after he turned 3.

  • We switched to pullups when Jason was about a year old. He wouldn't stay still for a diaper change so I had to hold hime with one hand (he would be standing up and trying to run away) and pulling the diaper up on his butt with the other hand. Not possible to do this with regular diapers.

  • Sarah is in size 3 Luv's and she is 25lbs, 33.5 inches. She has slim legs and is generally narrow, but it never even occurred to me that she'd run out of diaper sizes.

  • Pampers used to make a size 7.  Do they not any more?
  • I just bought size 5's for Aaron... while he still fits in size 4s (during the day) they seem a bit snug. I hope he'll be in these 5s for a while. I'm using Huggies now. I found that Kirkland brand (Costco) runs big and they're pretty good.

  • Thanks for all the tips, I didn't know you could use Pull-Ups, or that Pampers makes a size 7. I'll Google that. The problem is width. Adrian has a plump butt and thighs so the diapers get small by width more than by length. But maybe if he starts to slim down like 2 yr olds do, he might be OK in the size 6 and 7 for a while. I hope so, I don't want cloth diapers!

  • DS has been in Pampers 6 Cruisers for quite some time which run a bit bigger than the other Pampers 6 swaddlers I think it is in the aqua box. He is by no means near the weight for sz 6 either, but the 5s were to the point of not leaving any "droop" room. They hugged his tuss and the tabs weren't quite able to meet anymore. I see they still make the cruisers up to size 7 so there is hope for our LO.
