If your twins were early....

** I also made a post on the Preemie board, but wanted to get as much feedback as possible.

If your twins were born early (my girls were 32 weekers), do you recall when they began enjoying puree baby foods?  (oatmeal, yogurt, etc.)  My girls are almost 7 months old, and I try to feed them mid morning in their high chair seats, and again around 5 pm.  They seem like they are "hungry" and want more than bottles, yet spit each and every bite out.

Any advice is appreciated.  Thank you!

Re: If your twins were early....

  • we started purees at 5 months actual age (approx. 4 months adjusted) and they've always seemed to like them.  We give them purees 1 hour before lunch and midway between dinner and bedtime.  It doesnt seem to be affecting their formula intake or weights

  • my twins were full term and at 7mo were not that interested in purees... it was around 8mo that they really got into them.

  • My boys were born at 37weeks and I want to say they've just begun to enjoy "real" food.

And Harry enjoys it far more than Alex does... But alex was/is also the one who seem to enjoy his bottle more...

  • My LOs are 33 weekers.  We started cereal around 4.5 mo (just a bit every few days) and they were luke warm to it.  When we started purees at nearly 6 mos, they we very open to them and enjoy most of the fruits and veggies we've tried.  I wouldn't worry too much, I think there's a huge range of "normal" when it comes to solids.

  • We started purees at 6 months actual, 3.5 months adjusted.  But at that point the boys really seemed ready to start purees based on everything I had read ... particularly on wholesomebabyfood.com   They loved them from the get go.  We started with veggies and fruits though... we introduced oatmeal probably around 8 months with yogurt then too.  It totally just depends on the baby... I wouldn't stress over it yet.

  • My guys were 32 weekers too and we started feeding purees at 6 months. B took to it right away, but JP still spits it all out.

Just keep trying.  They'll get it!

FWIW... acorn squash is a beloved thing for both boys.  Even JP.

  • My 34 weekers started oatmeal at 4.5 months. They didn't like it much. We added veggies at 5 and fruit at 5.5 months. The loved real food so much more. I do fruit and yogurt an hour after morning bottles. Veggies and oatmeal or rice between evening bottle and bed bottle.
