I am so excited to share my birth story with you mamas. I was induced at 39 weeks 2 days because of gestational diabetes and concern of having a big baby. The induction got pushed back one day because of high census at the hospital.
2/4/11
1 pm: arrived at the hospital
330 pm: cytotec inserted into my cervix (was previously schedule to start with Cervidil however, given that I was induced in the afternoon instead of at night, the midwife chose cytotec....not a fan.
7 pm: still 2 cm and only 60% effaced, a second dose of cytotec was not inserted. You can receive 4 doses of this medication. My OB was on call and said no
830 pm: Pitocin started, 3 cm 60% contractions starting to pick up and continued to pick up
2/5/11
1245 am: contractions picking up with little relief in between each, water broken by MD
1 am: Epidural...BEST THING EVER!
At this point, I can't remember exactly how I dilated but by 1130 am I was 100% effaced +2 station and 8 cm and was STUCK. The OB told me that she wanted me to push to see if she manual try to dilate my cervix. I pushed numerous times and was nervous because I had never really heard of this before. After this, she told me that I needed to sit for another 2 hours to try to dilate. A new OB in the group (extremely experienced) came on call noon.
12 pm: My contractions did not break inbetween and stopped climaxing, unfortunately, the pain was pushing being the epidural
130ish pm: OB came in and said "this baby is not very happy" give her some oxygen. He then said that contractions were really not progressing and my uterus was really not tolerating labor, affecting the baby causing late heart decelerations, which lasted about 12 minutes. The OB said, at this point we can take the risk and labor for another 2 hours and attempt to deliver the baby vaginally and still not be able to birth him due suspected large size or go ahead a do a c-section. After a few more minutes of watching my uterus poorly, yet consistently contract a c-section was in my future
230 pm: initial incision cut
234 pm: Caleb Michael was born
Although I did not want a c-section, his head was transverse and would have been impossible to deliver vaginally. We are all happy and well and Caleb is a true blessing to our lives!
Re: Caleb is here!
Yay congrats!
I also had to have a c-section for the same reason (was head down but head was transverse). I wish you a speedy recovery!
Let me add my -
