XP: Ergo vs. Beco

Someone posted this on 0-3 but I thought I'd ask over here to see if there were more opinions since your LO's are a little older. Anyone have any input on the Ergo vs. the Beco?

Re: XP: Ergo vs. Beco

  • I don't have a Beco but love my Ergo.  I used my Ergo until 15 mo with my toddler (she was delayed walking) and could have done it longer if I wasn't huge and pregnant at the time.  I think Ergos are amazing and really can be used for a very long time.  I have back problems and it's the only carrier that I can use for more than an hour without pain.

  • I have a Beco Butterfly II.  It allows for front or back carry.  DS loves to be carried on my back.  It's slightly more structured than the Beco Gemini which allows for front-front facing, front-rear facing, hip and back carry.  Honestly, what sold me on the Beco was the patterns they offered Embarrassed  I think the print we went with is called "Tyler" but I could be wrong on that.  It's light blue.  I thought it was a nice pattern and DH said he'd feel okay wearing him back-carry even with the pattern ;-)

  • We love our Ergo. BUT, DD loves to be front facing, and the Ergo doesn't allow for that. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably buy the Beco instead (assuming it's as comfortable as the Ergo)

Hm, I'm thinking my DS is going to prefer front-facing so that's good to know.

    Thanks for the input all!

  • I have an Ergo, and love it.  But I'm pretty sure that with the Beco you don't need an insert for newborns.  That's a real plus in my book, since I never liked the infant insert for the Ergo.

This exactly, but I do love my Ergo!

  • I have a Beco Gemini and I love it. I also have an Ergo. Both are super comfy, although I think the Ergo may be a bit more comfy. The main reason I prefer the Beco is because DD LOVES facing forward, which the Ergo doesn't allow. We had a Bjorn at first, but she started killing my back, so I am really happy to have the Beco. I also find the Beco easier to put on compared to the Ergo.
