Help! Why shouldn't an 8 week old cio?

I lost all my bookmarked links, so I need some help. A friend is considering letting her 8 week old CIO for naps and overnight sleeping...can someone please point me to some sources that explain why this is a bad idea? I'm going to recommend she look at Happiest Baby On the BLOCK, Baby Whisperer, and/or NCSS. Any other alternatives to cio that you'd recommend?

At 8 weeks wants = needs. Baby doesn't think "oh, I really want to see my mama right now". Hell, as soon as you leave they forgot you exist. Babies that young only cry because they need something. Touch is something they need, as seen by Harlow's attachment studies.

I'd also rec. Ferber- it'd probably be easier for her to believe coming from someone who doesn't see all CIO as bad.

If I recall correctly, Ferber doesn't even reccommend it that early. So I would ditto that suggestion.

I just finished the Baby Sleep Book by Dr. Sears (and evidently the rest of his family...). It has a whole chapter on why CIO is bad. It also has a lot of alternatives throughout the book. Maybe that would help.
