Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Whose LO still sleeps in FP Rock 'n' Play Sleeper?

DD is almost seven months old, and besides a quick week or two stay in her crib over a month ago (during which she awoke every two hours), she is still sleeping in her R&P.  She HATES her crib, and screams every time we put her in it.  :(  She did have reflux that seems to have otherwise gone away, but I wonder if that has something to do with it (although she plays just fine on the floor without getting upset, so I don't think lying flat is really the issue).  I tried again last night, and she fell asleep right away (which is usually the case), but woke up screaming about 90 minutes later.  As in, blood curdling screaming.  She only calmed down when I put her in the R&P.  *sigh*

She STTN 10-11 hours in her R&P, but anytime we've done the crib she wakes up constantly screaming all night long.  I'm so worried that she'll never sleep in her crib.  She won't even play in it or nap in it without screaming.  Are we the only ones still using the R&P?  DD #1 was such an easy crib sleeper at such an early age, that this is all new to us.  Help!!!

  • we are transitioning him into the crib this weekend. He figured out how to sit up (from laying flat) and pulling up to stand from sitting on the floor. I'm washing his crib sheets today so he has a fresh bed tonight and H is lowering the mattress another notch now. He loves to play and hang out in his crib when I'm putting his laundry away so i dint think it will be that big of a deal (i hope!). I think its going to be harder for me not to have him next to me all night. I love knowing hes right there and looking at him. I have a video monitor but hey lets face it any kid looks creepy on night vision lol

  • You are not alone.  Mine still does and she'll will be 7 months on the 20th.  I have to admit we've not made any real attempt to move her into her crib yet, the time is coming soon and  I'm dreading it.  Oh, and DD  has to be swaddled as well.  My goal was to wean her off the swaddle then move her into her crib, but unswaddling was an epic fail.

Ok, you've made me feel much better.  We stopped swaddling months ago.  Good luck with weaning your LO from both!  That will be tough, but hopefully she goes easy on you.  I think we may just wait it out until she really starts sitting up on her own.  Until then, I'm leaving her comfy and cozy in her rocker (and STTN).  Embarrassed

  • I transitioned my Ds around 5 months. I am not going to lie, it was not easy! I had to sleep train him. I think he just didn't understand that the crib was for sleeping and was not used to laying flat. We did a version of Ferber, which worked pretty well. I first began putting him the his crib for naps. I had to rock him to sleep, so I would rock him, lay him down, and he would only last about 20-30 minutes. I would get him up and go about my day. For bed time, I would lay him in his crib, and whenever he woke up, I would rock him back to sleep and try again. If that didn't work, then I would put him in the RnP. Each night he seemed to last a little longer in the crib. But, what finally worked for us was ferber.

However, after the holidays, we are back to rocking! :( BUT, he sleeps in his crib just fine!

So, I would just transition her little by little and eventually she will get it. GL

  • You keep giving up and putting her back in the RnP.  You have to pack it up in the attic or give it away and commit to the crib.  If she has no other option, she will get used to it eventually.  It may mean several sleepless nights for you, but you need to be tougher than her.
All kids cry. They will get over it. Giving parents the obvious answer since 2011.
  • We never used a Rock N Play, but what if you tried propping her crib mattress and then gradually lowering it very few days? Sounds like it's just too big of a transition going from sleeping all snug and upright in the RNP to being totally flat.
