I woke up Wednesday morning feeling the same as every other day. I got DH off to work and he took DS to child care. I went back to sleep for a couple hours, woke up and began cleaning the house. I started getting contractions while cleaning around 10am, which I assumed would stop once I relaxed. I took a shower at 11 and relaxed on the couch. They were still coming even with relaxing and drinking water, coming about 5-7 minutes apart. I was able to walk and talk through them so I didn't want to make any phone calls. I then got a good amount of bloody show around noon so I called my mom (coming from 3hrs away) and DH at work. I then called the hospital to see when she wanted me in since my contractions were then coming about 3-4 minutes apart.
We got to the hospital around 2pm and I was 4-5cm but baby was still at -3 position. MW said with second babies that it is common for them to stay up high. I labored on the ball, in the tub and walking for a few hours when the back labor really kicked in. I got a horrible cramping feeling in my lower back that wrapped around my hips. I had DH rubbing my hips to try and ease the pain but nothing was helping. At 6pm I was already 9cm but baby was still up high at -1. MW had me doing hands and knees to try and get baby to drop more. I was getting very tired from the back labor and so she broke my water around 7:30pm to see if that would help baby drop. I then labored another hour on my feet, trying to help baby drop down. Finally around 9pm I decided I needed to push. She checked me and although I was fully dilated and thinned, the baby still was not where she wanted him. She had me do a couple pushes through some contractions when she realized I had more water to be broken. As soon as she broke that bag, the baby turned (he was sunny side up) and dropped instantly and I began pushing. He was out in 5 minutes. Because of the sudden drop, my uterus and cervix tried to come out as well so she had to push it back up in (very painful) and I had to get a shot to control the bleeding. That was all cleaned up within 10minutes. Brennick Karson entered the world at 9:44pm 7lbs 5.3oz, 21 inches long. He nursed within 15 minutes of birth. Second time med free birth with no tearing!
