I am a good way done with my re-organize of the kitchen. However, I would love to find some sort of containers (preferably not super expensive) that are the right size to house "standard" sized bags of things like flours (white, wheat, self-rising) & sugars (white, dark & light brown). DH & I each got a nice set of canisters several years ago at an outlet store (and the cat broke a few of each - so we have 5 left of various sizes). I love them and they do have a great seal - but they don't hold much. So I fill it with X and then I still have 1/2 - 3/4 of a bag of whatever it is to store elsewhere. Not what I want. I just want to transfer from the original bag to a container so it stays fresh and is easier to store. The bags are bulky and take up room - and obviously I can't go vertical with them.
I would love a good quality plastic - maybe ones that stack, but I would look at glass too. Anyone store there things that way?
Thanks
Re: How do you store flour, sugar, etc.?
I own a lot of Lock & Lock. I keep my flour and sugar in bins in the pantry that look like this:

It's easy to get a measuring cup in there for baking. They also sell canisters in the same shape that are clear with color lids.
Thanks, this is what I was leaning towards..right now I have my brown sugar in one, but it is too big (I have the bag in the box). I like being able to stack them though.
Edit: I take it back, i have different item - the ones in the link are neat too. thanks for the idea.
I have ceramic canisters that have a pretty good seal on the lid and each are able to hold the full size flour or sugar bag. Works well. I keep them in the pantry. They're from Williams Sonoma.
I use some from WalMart with a screw-on lid and the containers are all plastic. Amazingly, they've done well to keep moisture out {I live in a high-humidity climate}.
