I like the name Amalie and it is on my list of names. We have already decided on a different girl name though if this one is a girl. My husband and I were at a wedding in Germany a few years ago and Amalie is the groom's niece's name. I have liked it since then :-)
I prefer Amelie or Amalia. I feel like you would get asked about the pronunciation of Amalie very frequently and that it would also be likely to be misspelled a lot (assuming you live in the U.S.).
