2nd Trimester

Did you try for a certain gender??

Did anyone do anything special to have a girl or a boy? If so did it work for you? I was just wondering. I have heard there are a few things you can try to do to have a boy vs a girl but not sure if it really works. I know having sex the day of ovulation or after you have a better chance of having a boy, well that is what I have read.

  • No. I honestly do not care.

  • We tried for so long with no success, that the last thing we were thinking of was trying for a certain gender. I charted, and now that we know the gender, I can tell you that we had sex the day of ovulation, and we are having a boy.

  • nope - just had sex - I didn't and don't care what the gender of the baby is.  I just wanted to get/be pregnant!

  • I don't think any of that really works and for me it really didn't matter as long as my baby is healthy.
  • Nope, honestly I forgot.  i read an old wives tale about doggy style being the preferred position to conceive a boy because of deeper penetration, but got caught up in the moment and forgot we were trying to conceive.   Afterwards i did think "huh, oh well.  the OWT probably isn't true anyways" and went on with my day.

  • We just had sex! Everything else is out of our hands. However, we are hoping for a girl this time around. If we do have a boy we will try one more time. If I end up with 3 boys I'll still be thrilled. We're not going to waste our time on "tricks" to try and get a certain gender though.
  • Nope we didn't try for a specific gender either time.  Ironically we did have unprotected sex the day before ovulation during both pregnancies, so my guess this time around is another girl.  We'll see.

Oh, and we did it doggy style for baby #1 and got a girl so I'm not a big believer in the old wives tales.

  • I had read a little about natural methods of gender prediction and we did try timing our sex based on my ovulation as sort of a goof for about 2 months earlier in the year but stopped when we found out our offer on a house was accepted.  Once we were moved into the new place we decided it was time for another baby and sort of forgot about the timing and just did our thing.  Although looking back I think we did have sex the day before I ovulated and didn't the day of since we were staying at my parent's place and we're having a girl this time.
  • It took us7 months to get pregnant. We didn't do anything special to "get a boy" or "get a girl". We just wanted a baby!

  • Nope, would be thrilled with either gender so there was no trying for one or the other.  My SIL does plan to try for a boy next time.  She'll be charting and having sex whenever the book she's reading tells her it's boy making tim.  I think it's a nutty idea.

  • All the things they tell you to do to increase your chance of getting one gender or another are old wives tales.  I mean I think the only way to gurantee the gender is to have a "designer" baby.

  • All three times I had sex the day I ovulated.  In fact this time I had sex 2-3 times a day around the time I ovulated and am getting a girl.  I had always heard that having sex right around O would make for a boy too.  Guess it really is just a crap shoot:)

  • I personally think all that is a crock of $hit.  There's a 50% chance of having a boy or a girl no matter what you do!  And I think if you're trying to get pregnant, you should just be happy to get pregnant.  I think it's terrible that people hope and pray amd try for one sex.
  • No we didn't try for a specific gender, we just had sex. I'm honestly not even a believer in certain things help you conceive a certain gender, and I don't care either way.
  • The only "scientific" claim I've heard does revolve around ovulation. Apparently the "female" sperm are fatter, slower but live longer. The "male" sperm are faster but die sooner. So if you're ovulating and the egg is on its way down, the "male" sperm are more likely to reach it first, being that they are faster and the trip is shorter. If the egg is still way up in there, the female sperm have the longevity to make the longer trip.

So according to this theory, if you're ovulating you're more likely to have a boy. I think the reasoning is interesting and it makes sense although its clearly not that cut and dry.

  • When we were TTC with our daughter we were trying for a girl and we got a girl.  I don't know if it actually worked or if we just got lucky.  We were only trying for 2 months.  With this pregnancy were actually were trying, then were stopping for the holiday's, but instead got a BFP!  We don't know what we're having yet and I wasn't charting since we weren't trying.  Either way, as long as the baby is healthy.  We really just wanted another child to complete our family.

  • we were not trying for a certain gender but i have also heard that if you have sex on the day of ovulation you are more likely to have a boy rather then a girl because male sperm swims faster but dies quicker then female sperm. So for example you have sex two days before the male sperm might die on the way but female sperm is slow and steady. lol there are websites that explain this better then i do. here is a website that explains it better: https://www.naturalpregnancyaid.com/gender.html

  • Well, definitely not, since this baby was a big surprise (I was on the pill). First child, we DTD on the day I ovulated and we had a boy.

BUT...I've actually known 3 people now that have had success with a gender sway using the Shettles Method. I've read up on it a little and some of the philosophy/science behind it makes sense. BUT, I still think it's a crap shoot.

  • We tried for a girl with DD, this one we just tried. DH later admits that he was trying for a girl again. haha.
  • I just wanted to get pregnant so we just had lots of sex! we did read up on trying to have a boy and did every trick but I can't say we truly stuck to it because of the excitement, hence we are having a girl! The ultrasound shows a week earlier due date than I had calculated with my cycle for months, so maybe it was screwed up?! but whatever I am happy and hope she's healthy and done trying to figure out the timing! I don't believe it works!!! :)
  • baby #1 -- clomid baby, charting, temping, fertility monitor, etc --sex day of ovulation.  BOY.

baby#2 -- charting, temping, fertility monitor, etc -- sex FOUR days before ovulation.  BOY.

so much for shettles, at least this time around!  this one was bound & determined to be a boy!

  • Nope. I don't think they are true at all. I wanted a boy since I have a girl but we did it the old fashion way. Try Try Try and then wait and see :) We just got lucky!

  • Having another girl... We had sex on day of big o with deep penetration so I guess we did everything for a boy but.... We are happy to have a sister for our daughter,,,
  • IMO, gender tricks are bogus. Especially if you're basing it off where the women is in her ovulation because the SPERM is what carries the gender gene. So unless someone has a way of sorting millions of sperm into boy and girl categories at ejaculation its all pointless to me.

  • I always joked that if I have a girl she'll stay with my sister, and if my sister has a boy he'll come live with me...but honestly whatever we have is going to be a blessing.

Both my DH and I really want boys, though, so I did research on the type of diet that helps your body's PHprepare for boys and stuck mostly to an alkaline (non-acidic) diet. The "Y" sperm don't last long in highly-acidic environments, and vice versa. It's the same basic reason the "timing" during your cycle can prevent or promote boys or girls; if you have sex too far before ovulation the acidity is higher and the boys don't survive long enough for the egg to be ready for fertilization. Also, when we decided to try my husband checked the Chinese Gender predictor just be be on the "safe side" :)

I don't know yet if it worked, but we'll see here in another couple of months!!

I have heard/read about this too and think it seems plausible.  However, we had sex as early before ovulation as we could (not trying for a girl necessarily but that's just how it happened) and we are having a boy.  So there goes that theory.
