Babies: 9 - 12 Months

party today! and a vent...

James's birthday party is today, so my mom and sister in law came in town with my nieces.  They are all staying with us.

My older niece is almost 6, and has a cough/cold.  Her and DS1 are "camping out" in the tents I set up for them in our gameroom, which is right outside my bedroom door. (We basically converted the upstairs den into the kids playroom/gameroom, all of the bedrooms are off of this room)

SIL went to snuck off and went to sleep at like 9:30, leaving us to deal with my sick niece.  From the minute I told them to go to sleep, she cried.  And cried.  And cried.  Even though she went in numerous times to tell her mom she wasn't feeling good, almost threw up, etc, SIL kept sleeping.  I didn't get to bed until after midnight, and was woken up at 1 hearing my DS yell "WILL YOU PLEASE JUST GO TO SLEEP!!!!!  So I didn't really get to sleep until a bit after that.

Of course, DS2 wakes up at 6:30 (his normal wake up is between 6:30 and 7).  I can hear my niece upstairs coughing right now, and SIL is still sleeping.

I am exhausted.  I really wanted to be nice and rested for the party this afternoon, now I'm just hoping I can stay awake until then.  Sad  And I really hope SIL decides to wake up and take care of my niece at some point today.  I feel bad that she's not feeling well, but don't want to give her medicine without my SIL's ok.

Thanks for letting me vent!

  • I'd be piissed too. They should be helping you, not expecting you to take care of her kid. If DN was sick, they should have stayed home to take care of her and to keep from getting your son and all the other party guests sick.

Good Luck with the party! I hope everything goes perfectly!

  • Yeah, I'd be really pissed.  If she felt it necessary to bring her sick kid to your party, she should at least have the consideration to stay up and take care of her.  That's just disrespectful to leave her to you guys.  I'm sorry you're so sleepy.  Hope the party goes well!

  • That's craptastic. You should knock on her door and wake her up.
  • This. It's so lame for her to bring along a sick kiddo at all, but how inconsiderate & sad that she isn't even taking care of her herself :( That sounds so much like my SIL. Maybe you can grab some coffee or a quick nap for an energy boost? Happy Birthday to your LO. I hope the party goes wonderfully & you are able to enjoy it!
