those who end up with an episiotomy

i know no one loves advice but I was just thinking about this as I was reading all of the labor questions.. If you have an episiotomy, do me a favor and PLEASE take your colace and make sure you have a BM. I'm panicking thinking of the pain I went through with DS1. I was too afraid to poop and when I really HAD to go, it was built up and I couldn't go for 6 days. worst pain i've ever been in :( worse than labor pains. ok i've said my piece :-D

  • I didn't have any problems pooping, but the recovery in general was quite painful in my opinion!

  • I think this advice applies to anyone having a baby.  Take your colace!  I had the same experience after my c/s and it was awful.  I am really dreading the postpartum poop this time.

  • LOL that's what my mom told me about tearing.  She said she refused to go and they kept her in the hosp for 6 days until she went.  Of course, that was like 30 years ago; I don't think the insurance companies let you do that anymore ;)
  • do they give you the colace at the hospital or do you need to bring it yourself?
  • OMG...so true!  I did take the Colace, and still had problems.  I ended up calling the OB around 5 or 6 days to find relief.  I ended up taking a laxative (instead of just a softener), and when I ended up going it was horrible pain.  Horrible!

This time around I'm going to see if I can get relief a bit sooner.

  • they won't hold you anymore. they'll ask you constantly if you had a BM and i remember being like "are they on drugs, my hoo ha was just cut to my ass and you want me to push out a BM??" so i avoided it the first few days honestly. They do give you colace in the hospital but i think i skipped a few of them cause i was scared to go. i ended up taking suppositories, more stool softeners, milk of magnesium and the only thing that worked was an enema on day 6. i was begging god to kill me at that point

Lol.  I only go about once every 5 or 6 days now.  Ha!

  • I've had a BM every day since, I thought it was going to be worse then it was but I had been taking colace everyday leading up to labor.

They gave me colace in the hospital, and the doc said if I was having any constipation to take a little milk of magnesia.
