Success after IF

rinsing hair in bath

My girls hate getting their hair rinsed in the bathtub.  They don't understand leaning back yet, and inevitably, some water goes on their face/in their mouth.  This causes them to try to climb out of the tub.  Tongue Tied

Does anyone have a good way to do this?  I have tried rinsing with small, medium and large cups, and even that big cup thing with the soft part that goes against their foreheads.  They hate everything and wiggle around and end up with water in their faces, especially when I need to do like 10 passes since their hair is getting thick.

Bath time sucks these days.  They are still standing in the tub and hate getting water in their face.

Help.

xoxo,

Clueless Mama

  • I'd love to hear the responses on this one.  Ava is two, and this is still a battle involving tears every night.  She won't tilt her head back, and that thing with the soft part that goes against the forehead doesn't WORK if they won't til their heads back.  Her hair is so long now that I have to use real shampoo, which is harder to rinse out.  I dread washing her hair.

  • We give Nolan a wash cloth and tell him to hold it on his eyes.. it distracts him long enough. Do you have a removable/hose shower head in your tub? That helps too.

Tub time in our house is traumatic as well. The boys would rather DH do it because he is nicer, and I am all business! It gets better, but is a pain for a while!

Yeah, we do.  I just might have to try that and see if it goes over better.  Thanks.

I am just so sick of the bath time battle.  And really, if they would sit down for more than 2.4 seconds that would be nice, too.

  • I bought one of those rinse buckets from BRU that has the soft flexible part that you put against their head and it helps avoid getting water in their face. We don't have a problem with the kids now with bathtime!

  • OMG your siggy is SO STINKIN' CUTE!!!!

Anyway... We do swimming goggles. We first tried a snorkel mask. That was too weird. Swimming goggles are perfect and they can wear them in the shower when they get older too.

That's a great idea!  That way, if you ever do swimming lessons, they'll be used to them so they're not scared of the water.  Cause I've read that if you can pour the water over the head in the bath, it'll be easier for when swim time comes.  Goggles sound perfect!

  • You can also put wall stickers on the ceiling to get them to look up.

  • We use, "Eyes up to the stars!"

And when she was younger, a folded dry wash cloth and teach her to press it over her eyes and then teach her to slightly tip back....
  • I have been working with the washcloth, and the head tilt, and nothing works.

I end up counting to three and dumping on her Sad

I'm going to try the special bucket... I remember a headband-type foam thing from when I was a kid, maybe they have those now?

  • I had this problem once they got in the big tub (around 11 months). Before then we used the cup with the flexible end and leanded their head back.

My sister told me to just say "close your eyes" and then count "one" and pour water over their head (i put my hand over their eyes, not sure it does anything), then "twoooo" and then "threeeeeee" "all donnneeee!!" and then I wipe their face with a dry washcloth.

At first I thought my sister was crazy, but she said you'd be surprirsed and how much they understand.

They would scream and cry and try to climb out, but now as soon as they see the cup they put their heads down for me to rinse. It took a few tries but it works for us.

  • I lay LO down in the tub to rinse. I only put a few inches of water in the tub. He does not like it, but his response could be worse. I pour water in his hair, but also on his tummy since he likes how it feels. I will have to try the swimming googles though!! And the stickers on the wall/ceiling!
