TTC after 35

latest update (warning: m/c mentioned)

I had my methotrexate shot(s)--2 of them--yesterday at mid-day; my OB was really nice and set me up with an ultrasound right afterwards (it's just the way the scheduling turned out) and it seems we did the exact right thing with the shot (i.e. as opposed to an "exploratory" D&C) because the radiologist confirmed an ectopic mass (no fetus or heartbeat) in my left tube, about 3 cm.  So I haven't been imagining the discomfort in my left side. I am seeing my accupuncturist in a half hour and I have to say I'm vaguely looking forward to telling her that it wasn't my large intestine and the pasta I'd had for dinner like she was claiming last week (note to self: accupuncturists are not doctors).

I am doing amazingly ok.  The shots (one in each hip) really didn't hurt, and I'm not even sore today.  And so far, no side effects and no additional bleeding either.  This makes me a little worried the medication isn't working, but then again the left-side discomfort does seem better.

Right now my feeling is primarily one of relief, not sadness (I never had time to be happy about a bfp, so it's not like the feeling of loss that accompanied my first m/c).  Relief that I am getting through this, and relief that it wasn't so, so much worse given that it in fact was ectopic.  Thanks to everyone for hanging in there with me and the support.  I'll be back to update -- my next beta is next Wednesday when they expect the levels to have gone down significantly.  And DH comes in today for Valentine's day weekend (though we have been forbidden to BD until my levels are down to 0....).

  • Hey Coop, sorry about the situation but glad everything turned out well (not losing your tube).  Just a little heads up, I had the Metho injection too for my ectopic and the 2nd day I had extremely bad abdominal pain.  I don't want to scare you, just want you to know that abdominal pain may occur.  Just get plenty of rest and take care hun!  (((((HUGS)))).
  • as usual, you are taking this with uncommon grace and aplomb.

thank you for sharing the details of your experience.

  • I am so glad that everything has worked out and that it seems you made all the right calls for your situation. I can imagine it is a huge relief to know what was going on and that you picked an effective/appropriate way to deal with it. Not knowing is so stressful and can wear you out. I hope that physically you start to feel back to normal soon and can take the next few months to pamper yourself and relax!
