Had my first experience with a needleless injection

This will be a post and run.  My migraine medicine now comes in a generic injection, which happens to be needle-less.  Not only did it hurt more than the Imitrex injection pen, but it left a big welt on my leg that bled a good amount.  I have to say, I prefer the needle version.

  • aw, sorry it hurt you :(. Do you have to shoot the gun yourself? The ones in our vaccination line were HUGE. I can't imagine shooting up with one yourself. I always thought they were freaking cool, but none of the drugs we got hurt when they did it.

In my mind I am imagining the hypospray that they use on Star Trek.

I cannot wait until we catch up with Trek and start using hyposprays. I hate needles.

the ones we got shot with were like this:

only they had tubes attached through the ceiling to the compressed air thingy. It just shoots the drug through through your skin.

Here's what I found about it.  My theory is it gets the medicine inside by scaring the crap out of you.  Once you move this plastic piece back, you hold it to your skin and wait for what feels like forever (few seconds).

"When SUMAVEL DosePro is pressed to the skin, the compressed gas pushes a ram that drives a piston through the filled drug capsule. The drug is expelled under pressure through a precision drilled hole at the end of the glass capsule. This creates a thin stream of liquid with just enough pressure to penetrate into the subcutaneous tissue. Delivery occurs within one-tenth of a second."

Yeah, I'd rather just have a regular needle.

  • OMG I think I'll stick with injections. I've gotten fairly good at those. You are a brave, brave woman.

Holy crap.  This thing is the size of an epi-pen or a large sharpie.

I'm actually just a sucker.  I was naive thinking something with a needle wouldn't hurt that bad.  The Imitrex injections have very small, thin needles.

dang! I guess it has been almost 6 years since I had mine done. Crazy how fast technology changes. Still a big fat booooo if it hurts that bad though :(

  • We had a needless system to use before IV's - it injected lidocaine into the spot to numb it, and then we put the iv in and supposedly it didn't hurt. Some kids were totally fine with it, but I tried it on me and I thought it hurt like a Mutha! And it left an enormous bruise that lasted forever!!

I will always stick with needles - and ironically, I really, really hate shots. I come very close to hyperventilating and crying.
