Need Reston MW rec's (or Sterling)

After reading a lot on here and various online blog experiences with a MW I'm seriously considering one. My OB practice has 5 OB's and I do not feel a good connection with any of them. Also when it comes time for me to deliver it can be whichever doc is on call that day.

Anyone  know of a great MW in the Reston area? I was hoping to deliver at Reston hospital but might also consider the Loudoun Birthing Center in Lansdowne.

  • If you ever decide to look into homebirth, the midwives at Birth by Design are great :) Trust your instict -- if you are questioning your OBs, switch!! It's never too late.

I don't have personal experience with the Loudoun Community Midwives, but have read good reviews about them - they do hospital births: https://www.loudouncommunitymidwives.com/

  • I second Loudoun Community Midwives.  I am SO glad I switched and am in love with them all.

FWIW, if you are looking for a natural birth, I HIGHLY encourage you to stay away from Reston hospital.  They are not natural birth friendly in my opinion (and every doula I have met with told me the same).  I delivered at Reston with my first and not my favorite place for sure.  If you aren't looking for natural birth, then I think it will be fine.

  • Reston Hosp does have a high section rate (I had two there so no stones being thrown).  I heard that a few years ago they banned doulas from the delivery rooms b/c of conflicts with the nurses so I agree, if you are looking for a low medical intervention birth Reston probably is not the place.

I have heard great things about Loudoun though.  I really wanted to deliver there but my OB only delivers at Reston and FFX.  I did attend the walk in nursing help sessions at Loudoun a few times and really liked the feel there.
