What do you give them?
A few weeks ago we started giving DS little bites of whatever we were eating that was baby appropriate (bread, a little pasta, meatballs etc). Well, the kid has discovered that adult food is way better than baby food and has gone crazy! He can completely feed himself (which I am ECSTATIC about!) and has done great with everything we have given him.
I just feel like I am repeating the same few things over and over. I always have some sort of chicken or meatball in the fridge. We give him a little pasta when we have it (which is almost every night in some form). We also try and give him some fruit every day. I still give him veggies in baby food form since we don't eat a TON of veggies around here except for salads and lots of peppers/onions... we're italian LOL I just feel like his menu is boring (DH and I eat a lot of the same things over and over and I want to expose him to as much as possible so he doesn't end up picky like us LOL). Any suggestions of good things to make once and lasts a few days in the fridge?
Also.. how long do leftovers usually last? We're not big left over eaters but I can't really make a baby sized portion ever night of whatever I am giving LO.
TIA!
Re: XP from 6-9: When you started LO on table foods...
Have you tried baby puffs and yogurt melts?
We do little pieces of cheese, cubes of tofu, sliced up pieces of fruit (anything soft enough for him to chew - banana, kiwi, peaches, star fruit, etc), whole wheat pasta, baked fish that we break into small pieces (we've done salmon and tilapia), small pieces of toasted pita with hummus, small pieces of steamed broccoli, boiled carrot, boiled rutabaga.
I think I might bake some sweet potato fries for him this week (he's only had them mashed).
For veggies, try the frozen veggies in the bag. They are great for microwaving a teeny portion, and they are usually in kid friendly sizes and shapes (except for the runs with the round sliced carrots - I just cut those in half). We also buy diced fruit in pear juice for quick fruit snacks.
My LO was crazy about those Gerber puffs at your DSs age, and if your LO has teeth, you could also see how he does with Cheerios. We gave my LO regular yogurt (fruit on the bottom fage and yo baby organic - he loves it, he eats at least one yogurt a day).
