DD got the seahorse as a gift before she was born and then I read about everyone freaking out about it. DD never took to it and now she is actually scared of it. My sister, who's pregnant, registered for Sophie. I'll have to test hers on DD before I buy it!
Kylie loves Sophie. We introduce new toys all the time and she will play for a little bit with them but as soon as she sees Sophie, she gets so excited.
Liam can be getting sick of playing with other toys but when I squeak Sophie he gets the biggest grin on his face and grabs her like he's going to hug his long lost love. It's the funniest thing ever.
b/c DS loves her and she's cute too! When he first started to be able to put things in his mouth, he loved gnawing on her more than anything probably b/c of all the different surfaces. Even my friends have commented on how DS really loves "that giraffe".

Anything that keeps my infant's attention for more than 20 seconds generally I become obsessed with because it means freedom to quickly pee or change the washer over or put my makeup on while the baby is happily distracted.
G was indifferent to Sophie, but E loves that giraffe.

My DS is the same, and when my friends call Sophie "that giraffe" I promptly correct them and say "HER NAME IS SOPHIE!" - hahahaha

It's like any toy - some babies love it, some could go without. Liam loves Sophie, it's one of the only things he will teethe one. Before I discovered her soothing abilities, I thought of her as more like a glorified dog toy. Now when I have a baby in massive teething hysterics, I know I have someone on my side :P
I agree that it's because she's cute and squeaks. My son can be playing with one toy, but if I stand Sophie up near him it's game over for the other toy.
LO likes Sophie, but no more then any of her other toys. But I don't mind because she only cost me 8$ (including shipping!). I got one of those groupon style coupons, and then when you signed up to the site you also got 5 dollars for free. I would not have bought it at it's regular price!
Re: Why is everyone obsessed w Sophie the giraffe?
Because she's darn cute, squeaks which babies love, is light and easy for babies to handle, and soft to teeth on.
Some kids love it, some kids don't. I'd be pissed too if I spent 20 bucks on a tiny toy that DS hates lol
