Cloth Diapering

Diaper rash - not sure if I should strip?

Hey ladies,

We've been CDing for 13 months without incident, but lately Sam has had some really pesky diaper rash.  Here's the thing though - it's not all over his diapered area, just where his poop touches his skin. Obviously we change him as soon as possible, but particularly for overnights, he just gets really red.  Because it seems to be more poop related than contact with diaper related, I hesitate to think it's the dipes... but I've never stripped before and maybe I should give it a shot?  We have no issues with stink or absorbency - just this rash.

I should also say we use Kushies liners, so he's often not in contact with the dipe itself.

Last thing to ask - if I do try to strip, would I need to strip the dipes and the inserts or just the dipes? We use BGs, FBs and Thirsties duos.

Thanks so much.

Re: Diaper rash - not sure if I should strip?

  • You can try stripping, I just did recently but only because I was disinfecting for yeast anyway and we did the inserts and dipes. DS poops every night during the night so he is the same way.  Red right in between the crack and I just think its because who knows what time he poops and how long he sits in it.  Without stink or repelling I would hesitate to think its the dipes. Also DS has been going a lot due to teething and has been rashy, could he be getting  teeth?

  • And also I use CJ 's Butter every night as a barrier.
  • Thanks - the teething idea is interesting.  Since he turned 1 it seems like he is constantly teething so who knows.  I'm going to buy stock in Triple Paste though.  That stuff is magic.  So far using liners I've had no problems...

  • That's good to know.  I have flushable liners but I usually use CJ Butter or CA baby diaper cream.  Hope it clears up!
