August 2011 Moms

Hormones unleashed at the gym this morning... oops!

I was on the eliptical and there were two younger women on the weight machines right by me. They kept complaining about their pregnant friend, saying she was lazy for not working out and that her complaining about morning sickness is just a dumb excuse. They talked about how they didn't feel that the couple was financially stable enough to raise a child. They complained about how all their summer plans now had to change because their "friend" is pregnant and due in August. You get the idea...

After about 10 minutes I had enough. I asked if they had ever been pregnant before - no surprise, they hadn't. Then I proceded to tell them that they are terrible friends for talking about this woman like this, and that since I am pregnant their comments really hit home and pissed me off. They unsuccessfully tried to defend/justify their comments, and I just kept yelling at these poor girls.

They went to the opposite side of the room to finish their workout. I doubt I'll ever get a welcoming smile if I see them again! Dang hormones.... Smile

  • Good for you! I think they deserved it! I'm a normally active person and m/s has made it nearly impossible for me to work out since about 6 weeks. If I move too fast or too much I throw up. It drives me crazy, and those ladies don't know how their friend really feels about her situation.

  • You are so much braver than I am - even with hormones!  But I suppose somebody had to tell those women they were being ridiculous.  Better to hear it from a stranger so that maybe they'll be kinder to their friend.

  • Good for you. Not only do they sound like terrible friends, they don't sound like very good people either!!

  • I am usually not the kind of person who would do that but it just makes me so mad when people judge pregnant women - you have no idea until you've been through it. And even then, every pregnancy is different! Normal everyday people are not the celebrities/models we see pregnant on TV or in magazines! I really hope they start treating the woman they call a friend with a little more respect.

  • Yay! I absolutely love you for that! I don't know if I could have done that pre-pregnancy but with my hormones...I think I easily could have. They needed to be set straight. That was really awful of them to say about their friend, I know it's really just that they're frustrated and don't understand what they're friend is going through but they should try better to understand her. Maybe they will now thanks to you. So from a pregnant woman who has felt like a lot of her friends don't understand what she's going through, thank you for ALL the pregnant women out there :D
  • Go You!!! You rock for actually saying something to them. :)

People need to stop talking $hit about their "friends" especially when it comes to stuff like this. Ugh.

And, seriously, you were at the gym? Again, I say, GO YOU!!
