Prevacid

Anyone else have a DC on prevacid?  Jake was just switched from Axid to prevacid (15mg daily) because the axid stopped working.

How is it working for your DC?  He seems to be much better on it now, I'm just worried it is going to stop working like the Axid did.

One more thing, DH took Jake to the pedi last week when the medication was changed.  The pedi gave us samples of the prevacid but not a prescription.  DH didn't think to ask if it was over the counter or not.  Do you need a prescription for it?

Re: Prevacid

  • My son isn't on it anymore, but was for almost 9 months. It always worked well for us. When the Prevacid did stop working, the doctor increased the dosage according to my son's weight gain. Once he was 11 months old, we began to wean him off it, eventually just stopping it and he was fine.

We had a prescription for it. We originally had a powder that we had to mix with water. That was a pain to do. We then found an old school pharmacy that would turn it into a suspension liquid. A lot of places won't do that because it's only good for a month and you have to refrigerate it. They even mixed it with caramel flavoring.

    Good luck.

  • YEP.  DD is on it.

Yes it is prescrip (and expensive at that, I think it was almost $200 without insurance, but of course we didn't pay that).

We do 1/2 a pill 2x a day (DD is 8 mo and over 18lbs)

Her reflux is awful, doc has her on 3 meds for it.
Axid, Reglan, Prevacid.  The Axid and Prevcid have to be given at alternated times of the day b/c they are similar, but this is the only combination that is working for her now.

I guess, if the Prevacid stops working so great, you could always ask if he can take them both at different times of the day.

  • We use prevacid for our guys.  They get 1/2soludtab 2x/day.  It takes about two weeks to see a difference, and a month to see really drastic improvement.  But we'll be on it a looong time.  It is by prescription.

Go to Prevacid.com and sign up for their discounted copay card so you won't have to pay as much for the copay if anything at all.  It's a huge savings!  It takes about a month to get the card in the mail, so don't wait to do this.
