At what age did your LO sit still so you can read a book to them? Thomas can't sit still for more than 10 seconds - he's always wanting to move around.

Michael is able to sit through reading the same book several times. Now the book may have 6 pages max. His favorite is from the Sesame Beginnings collection and is called "Bubbles, Bubbles". The words are repetative and rhymtical and the pictures are of the baby mupets with great big eyes and we know how our LO's love eyes.

M is doing much better with this since she turned 18 months. Sometimes I only get to read her the abbreviatede version because she wants to turn the page. Sometimes I sit on the couch and hold the book up high and read to her while she plays with blocks or some other toy and looks at the book as much as she wants. She notices when I stop and seems to know when the page is turned to look up, so she is listening.

About a year or so for DS. And he won't sit still for just any book though. He's pretty picky. DD could sit still starting at 6 mos! She loves books. So does DS but like I said, just more picky.
M was probably around 10-12 months before he'd listen to a whole story. It still depends what kind of mood he's in, but more often than not he wants me to read his entire library to him in one sitting... then read it again.
My mother told me to let my DD get up off my lap, but to remain seated and to not only finish the book, but read one more while she played. Inevitably, she would come back and sit down to see what was up. And it worked.
Sarah has always loved stories, but ever since she got really mobile (walking), the only time she sits still long enough for stories is before her nap and before bedtime. Before bedtime, we usually read 3 or 4 books and it's the time when she is really interested in books. During the day, she sometimes grabs a book but wants to 'read it' herself.

Re: Speaking of books...re: reading
At this point, Aaron only wants to point at things in the book and turn the pages. He seldom lets you actually READ to him. But I still try.
He loves any book that has fold outs (ie. Baby's Beach Ball by Karen Katz) and he loves his Mickey Mouse Clubhouse book (a $5 find at Barnes & Noble).

10 seconds of sitting still would be awesome! I keep trying to read books to S but it doesn't work.
My Blog

About a year old when Fiona would actually start sitting for a whole book. Now she can't get enough of her stories.
