Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Maybe I'm Crazy, but have you ever considered

Baby modeling? I know someone who did it as a baby (just until she was 2) and it started her college fund. I toying with the idea of looking into it. Does anyone here have any experience with it? I'm not a crazy stage mom type, I swear, and I'm ready to be flamed. I know some people are really against this kind of stuff, but I'm kind of thinking if it's just as a baby and it goes to building LO's future, could it really be so bad?

Re: Maybe I'm Crazy, but have you ever considered

  • I wouldn't even know how to start doing that, but I would consider it if she was too young to be affected by it.

But that would be a big if. And all the money would have to go to her, as you said.

  • From what I've heard it's pointless unless you live in NY or LA.

And it wouldn't be much of a college fund at all.

No, I have not considered it.

Well how else is he going to pay his portion of the rent?

LOL - by the way, I think Dr. Phil is on stage DADS today. I'm intrigued. And disgusted.

  • Pfft! Your babies aren't models yet? Lilly's been modeling since she was conceived. You d@mn luddites. Are you afraid the camera will steal their soul?

Enter your baby in the Gap casting call and get your friends on Facebook to vote for them. It's a surefire skyrocket into stardom.

(But for realz, I don't think there's much work outside of LA/NYC. I'm just being an ornery turd.)

OP, no flames, I just think it teeters on the line of explotative. Lets kids be kids and all that jazz.

But, Sookie, what if she WANTS to be a model/actress/singer? Should I trust that my infant knows what's best?

I have heard the same thing.  And I haven't considered it either.

Well, he does always smile at the camera, so I guess that means he wants to! Decission made, LOL

  • I'm definitely going to do it, so then when she gets on Toddlers and Tiaras she can brag about how she's been modeling since birth. Girl needs to build up her portfolio, she's already behind!!!!

:::runs off to go buy more hair spray and sequins:::

  • You're not crazy but the girls are right, no point unless you live in a fashion capitol.

I definitely did have a fleeting thought after pageants after watching some cutie patootie toddlers on toddler and tiaras (the tiny babies, not the 4 yr olds) but H shot that down quick!

I was kidding. I don't really have an opinion on it as long as all the money is kept for them and you don't turn into one of the psycho stage moms.

  • Unless your child ends up with a big contract, a couple hundred dollars here and there is not worth it.  Big contracts are hard to come by in baby/toddler modelling. Not worth the running back and forth, dragging kids around the city thing.  Nope!
  • My DH's cousin has twin boys.  She has had them in movies, TV commericals, TV shows since they were babies.  I guess twins are big for media because if one is crankin you can use the other.  They have done very well and have saved a lot for the future.  That said - they live in San Diego and I presume it is easier to get gigs in California.

I think Lily wants to be a model, since she glares at the camera a lot when I pull it out. Models always look so damn angry! :P

It's called smizing. Tyra would be proud.

omg, that one season where they beat that term into the ground made me want to shove sharp objects into my ears. I ended up deleting that whole season off the DVR because I couldn't take it anymore.

  • When Luke was 3 months old we looked into it and took him to an audition for Baby Gap, Target, Johnson & Johnson, Babys RUs, Macys, and a few others. He got picked to represent the company but they wanted a little too much money to make composite cards. We decided against it. Maybe it would have proven worth it in the long run but I think the company was pulling our leg. I would try it again it I found a better one.

  •  I'm new to posting, but I wanted to jump in because I work(ed) in casting.  Just wanted to suggest to avoid any place that wants you to pay for anything upfront.  Babies don't need flashy comp cards because they will grow and change before you even get a chance to send them out.  At my old job we would just cast babies off of Polaroids and interviews.

Having said that, if you can book a job - it's pretty good money for a couple of hours of work.

     Good luck!
