It just dawned on me that I'm running my first half marathon since before I was pregnant on Sunday.
This is the first time in probably about 6 years that I'm nervous about a run. I know I'll finish it, but I try and tell myself it doesn't matter how long it takes me; this is just to see where my base is at and to see what I need to work on for my next one in May...
But...I have to say it will be amazing to see DS in his stroller at the finish line; that will be a moment I won't forget!!
Guess I'll be resting up and eating lots of carbs the next couple of days! YUM!
Re: YIKES! Half Marathon in TWO days!
girl, you crazy!
GL though!
Good Luck!
I need to get back out there - I realized last month that my last race was 1 year ago - when the half marathon I ran in NYC in January came and went.
Good luck!
FYI...carb loading for endurance events is a myth. It's better to eat some lean proteins with complex carbs. All carb loading does is boost the glycogen stores in your muscles. Those glycogen stores usually deplete within 20-30 minutes of exercise.
Yeah...I know that. I have never carb-loaded; all it will do is make you feel heavy and can cause GI distress.
I just eat normally (maybe a bit more) and drink tons of water. I gel during the race. Take half a gel just before the 1 hr mark and finish it at about the 16-17km mark (of the 21.1km race).
So I just thought of some of the signs that made me laugh along the way so I thought I'd share for some motivation.
"you're not slow, you're enjoying the course"
"relax, you're not going to win"
"this parade sucks" (held up by a little kid, too cute)
"graveyard ahead, look alive"
"chuck norris never ran a marathon, therefore RunningWife > chuck norris"
"if you were Kenyan, you'd be finished by now"
"toenails are overrated"
