Does anyone have any recommendations? I am a true plus size girl (size 20), so Old Navy XXL is too small; Target thinks there isn't any plus size preg women that need more than a size 16; and Motherhood Maternity is so pricey; and JCPenney's plus size maternity appears to be just unfashionable tents and burlap sacks. Grrr...
Re: Plus Size Maternity Clothes
I'm usually size 18/20, I found a pair of maternity pants at Target in size 18 that work (but are very long). Old navy online has a new plus-sized maternity section I'm wanting to check out, I'm just not a fan of ordering things online. I have found some of last year's longer style tunic shirts in a size 3x that I think will work well for me, at least through the second trimester, as they're roomy and long. Hope this is helpful!! Otherwise, if you are handy with a sewing machine (or know someone who is) you could see about transforming some of your current jeans into maternity pants by googling make your own maternity pants.. That's my plan so far.
Oh what I wouldn't give for Torrid to get a maternity line..
I wear a lot of Old Navy plus size clothes, but I bought the regular line that had roomier styles in the belly. They're the only brand that is consistently long enough for me, even not pregnant. A lot of people say that their sizing runs big, but it depends on where you're used to buying your clothes. If you buy Lane Bryant, you'll find that Old Navy's sizes run a bit smaller.
I also bought a couple of pairs of Lane Bryant jeans in a higher size. I knew they'd be long enough and have yet to find any brand of plus size maternity wear that has long enough pants. I'm wearing those now as I'm not sure my regular pants fit. They were fitting with the rubber band trick and then I got tired of doing that, so I just moved up. The higher size get really baggy, but they're okay. I figure when I start actually showing (which at my height will probably be 30 weeks plus), I'll turn the pants into real maternity jeans. I figure I can also buy some capris at Motherhood Maternity (assuming they fit) or Old Navy at that point as well as it'll be warm outside. Neither carries true tall in maternity plus, so I have to only buy pants that are supposed to be short there.
Also on the sewing machine comment, you can always hire someone to do the work for you. Tailors are usually fairly easy to find and are not overly expensive, so it may be worth getting a few pairs of pants modified to fit you comfortably.
Maybe try to find some Motherhood clothes on Ebay? Lots of people sell their clothes there afterwards. Motherhood is the only one I know of. A friend of mine went in to Pea in a Pod one day and asked for a size 10 or 12 and they said they don't cater to plus sizes, but to try Motherhood. FFS, 10/12 is not plus size. For that reason I'll never walk in to that store. How rude!!
Anyway, Ebay is a great resource for maternity clothes.
I totally understand what you mean! I am in the same situation and plus size maternity clothes are very difficult to find...I did have some good luck with Old Navy online. I know they only return online but the pants were pretty true to size.
Motherhood jeans are pretty good and their sale racks sometime have some deals, it's just hit or miss. Good luck to you!
How are you feeling? We are due the same day
I am also a 20 and just ordered some jeans from ON Plus Maternity section online. I am wearing them today and they work great.
Also, Motherhood Maternity Secret Fit Belly was great last time. The 1X was the perfect size for me.

and Luck to my BFPB StephK!!- Emma is here!!
This week I finally feel almost 100% normal again! I had been super nauseous and major food aversions since week 6. How about you???
I did look back at ON...I totally overlooked their maternity plus size, and actually liked some of the tops. My local Motherhood Maternity store didn't have any plus size in the store so online is my only option. I think I might cruise ebay...great way of saving some money on items I won't wear for very long.
Thanks for all the suggestions, ladies!
Oh honey I just had this discussion with my husband last weekend. I told him that I was surprised with half of America being considered obese, that not one of those obese people are pregnant and in need of clothing. lol
The Old Navy near us didn't even have a maternity section in their store. JCPenney only went up to a 1X. Target and Walmart only had very small maternity sections, none of which included plus sized clothing. I'm a 20-22 myself and I'm short, only 5'2", so it's difficult under normal circumstances to find something that fits right. My SIL swears by Motherhoods items (she is a bigger girl too), but I have found that the store doesn't carry sizes larger than 1X so I am going to order some jeans online from them this week and I'll let you know how they work. My SIL sent me a text today that she found some plus size maternity clothes at KMart today that were decent. Mostly I have just continued shopping at Lane Bryant. Most of their shirts work just fine, for me it's been the pants that have been the biggest problem.
If I find any other stores that work I'll gladly post and if you'll do that same I know I'd sure appreciate it, I know it's a challenge. Good luck and I hope that helps.
Ya, isn't it crazy that these retailers just don't think we bigger girls ever get pregnant! Jeez! The store that offers a good variety of clothes for plus size would def get my money, so not sure why they don't hop on it!!!
Would love if you could let me know if you find any other places, though!
