milk storage bags?

Which bags do you use?

I remember in a recent post someone mentioned using Lansinoh bags.  I looked them up and they are about half the price of the Medela bags I have been using, but they got some bad reviews.  Anyone have similar problems?   I have used Medela & Ameda bags with few leaks.

I also saw Nuk makes bags too.  Anyone use them??

Re: milk storage bags?

  • I had used Lansinoh bags.  Never had a problem at all with them.  I liked how they froze nice and flat for storage.

  • I have never had a leak with lansinoh bags.  I had a stash of medela pump and save bags another mom gave me and used them but didn't like how they froze with one end thicker, they messed my neat row in the freezer  :)(I freeze the bags flat and then stack them like files - oldest in the front).

I only freeze Friday's milk and I just started using tape with the lansinoh bags if I wanted to pump directly into the bag.  I usually held it just in case but it worked well.

    Same here.

If you read all the directions on the insert in box for the bags, they do "warn" that the bags should be handled carefully after being frozen, which I always do. The reason why leaks happen is when people bang up the bag after it's frozen (when it's more "brittle") and then they subsequently puncture holes in the bag, causing leaks.

This is an excerpt of what the insert says:

"IMPORTANT: We have chosen virgin plastic, which contains no chemical plasticizers, for the production of our storage bags to insure that no harmful element will ever migrate into your breastmilk. [...] This means that the bags could be more susceptible to tearing if they are not handled properly. For instance, if a bag of milk is dropped or strikes the edge of the counter or side of the freezer, it could weaken the plastic at the point of impact and cause it to leak upon thawing. With this in mind, it is a good idea to handle the frozen milk with care while in the freezer and when it is removed from the freezer and prepared for your baby."

  • Me too! At first I was using Medela bottles until i realized it was taking up so much room in my freezer ;/ then switced to Medela bags and am now using Lanisoh bags because the milk bank I donated to supplied me with them. They are a lot more flimsy but freeze really flat which is great if you have storage issues like me :)
  • I am using Lanisoh bags to freeze the milk I am donating. The mom I am donating too preferred them and gave them to me to use.
