I know that recently most cold medicines for infants/toddlers have been taken off the market. DS is 12 months (bday tomorrow, YAY!) and has a cold courtesy of starting daycare:) He slept horribly last night due to a cough and runny nose.
I vaguely remember an advertisement in Parenting magazine about some cold medication that was actually approved for infants/toddlers because it did not have the medication in it that was causing the problems (i.e. parents accidentally overdosing their kids). However, for the life of me, I can't remember the name or the age group that was approved for use.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? I wanted to do some quick research while at work and it is driving me crazy that I can remember anything. Help!
Re: Cold Medicine - 12 months
I don't think you are supposed to use anything until they are older than 2 (maybe even older). And I agree with MrsRenee ... cold medicine doesn't really do much. We have used Benedryl for colds to help with symptoms, but I don't think her doctor suggested that until she was 2.
We also used saline and suctioned out the snot ... and then a humidifier at night. Also, I would get the bathroom all steamy and stand in there with her for 15 minutes.
Colds are tough (tougher on moms, I think), but they truly do have to run their course.
