"The Consumer Product Safety Commission says electrical cords on the monitors can present a strangulation hazard if placed too close to babies' cribs."
That's the fvcking dumbest reason for a recall I've ever seen. If you put electrical cords, window blind cords, or any other kind of string/cord/wire next to your child's crib, you're ASKING for trouble. I'm sick of seeing perfectly good products being recalled because of IDIOT parents blaming big companies on their own negligence.

Well duh! Why the hell would someone put cords that close to baby's bed anyway? I don't understand these recalls. (Like all of those strollers that were recalled a couple of months ago because kids unsupervised kids who weren't strapped in correctly were strangled.) Come on. Lack of parental common sense is not the same as a defective product.
I guess I'm just confused as to why there would be a recall though, couldn't this happen with ANY monitor placed too close to the crib?? I'm a first time mom so I don't really know how these things work, but from what I read, it seemed that that was the problem. Did I read it wrong?

Wait a minute... you mean I am NOT supposed to dangle strings or cords in the babies crib for him to play with? CRAP, now i have to re-design our entire nursery!
ETA: It's like the "Caution HOT" warnings on hot drinks... Somebody was dumb enough to think their Hot coffee would be served on ice!

That's just dumb parenting. People should know better and really need to own up to the fact that it was their fault...not the manufacturers (unless they came to the house and installed it which I highly doubt)

Recalls are done for stupid *** all the time!!! The nap nanny was recalled because a parent decided to be a dumb a** and use it on a raise surface, LIKE IT SAYS NOT TO, and the baby fell out and died... well, DUH!!!! seriously... just because the parents are stupid, doesnt mean the item should be recalled!!

This. I couldn't get over that whole stroller recall issue..how oblivious were these parents to a) not strap their kid into the stroller and b) not be paying attention long enough for your kid to wiggle their way down and strangle themselves..blow my mind. We just got a Summer Infant video monitor for DD because she will have a twin bed soon and I want to see her if she gets out of bed..its on her dresser, not on her crib rail or mounted to the wall over her bed. I don't need the monitor so close to her that I can see her blink for crying out loud.

This exactly. I would think it would be common sense not to put a cord near your infant but apparently not.
