Josie is almost grown out of her keyfit 22. I had no idea I'd have such a giant baby! While she's getting really heavy in it, especially in the ice (and with Nicole's scare), I really like the convenience of it and the added safety of having a cushion if we'd fall. She's been sitting up since 4 months, but uses her hand to do it. So, I'm not sure how she's going to do in shopping carts, high chairs, etc.
Would you spend the money to get a keyfit 30? I could get one for $150. If I did that I'd probably try to sell my whole other system b/c I don't really use that stroller much anyway and hopefully in another year or so will need a double.
We were hoping Todd's sister's best friend would let us borrow hers to get through winter, but she's not willing to (which I somewhat understand, but was hoping she would help us out!).
Re: WWYD--car seat?
I wouldn't, but I'm also someone that doesn't like to have baby gear clutter. The only way I would is if I knew I could sell the 22 and then keep the 30 for future babies.
Otherwise, I'd just go straight to a convertible. At her age, she'll do fine in shopping carts and high chairs.
Is she outgrowing the height or weight? If it's the height, you might see how much height benefit there is to the larger model to make sure you'll get some use out of it. Also do you think you'll be able to carry her in it when she weighs much more?
I'm kind of torn here. How much time do you think she has left until you can't use the 22? If she can't sit up, I do feel like having something would be nice, esp in the winter. We used our infant seat for over a year and it was really nice.
If you plan on having more kids, I think I would def just sell your old one and upgrade now. If not, I guess my answer depends on some of my questions above.
The trade in event at BRU is still going on. Maybe you could go in and see what kinds of deals they have and check out convertibles.
The ice and snow will be gone before you know it...I would probably just keep her in the one you have until she's outgrown it and move on to a convertible.
ETA: Even with her low muscle tone Kaylee did just fine in shopping carts etc with her padded cart cover.
She's 27.5" and it goes to 30. She's still fine on having the 1" of clearance--several inches to go. She was 20.5 pounds with clothes on at the pedi, and it has a 22 pound limit. The straps are getting really tight. We have convertibles ready to go except for Todd's car.
The other issue is that if we have a 3rd kid our seat will be expired by then (I know, flame-worthy, but we got it from my mom's friend's daughter who only had one kid and takes very good care of her things). So, since we got it for a great price (and my parents paid for it), I wouldn't feel completely horrible paying for a new one, especially if I could sell the old one.
The issue with the Keyfit 30 is that it's still 30" so even though you'll have more room weight wise, she'll probably grow out of it height-wise.
I'd go straight to the convertible.
hmm..that's tough. I think it just depends on how often you think you'd still carry the infant seat. For me, I think I would spend the money if Lexi was your DD's age. We have the keyfit 30 and still use it often. We've had the convertible in my car as well since she was around 5 months old and I haven't used it in almost 3 month, I think. The infant seat is just so much easier in this weather. I almost always take her out of the seat once we get indoors but it's easier to bundle her up in the seat and to just throw it on the base quickly when we're outdoors.
FWIW DD was 17 lbs 3oz and 28.5in a month ago. I think we've got at least another few months before she outgrows the seat (by height, obv).
I *think* she was 27.5 in at her 6 month appointment.
If you think she could fit in her current seat another couple months...then I'd probably not get the other seat though. Once it's warm outside it will be easier to transport her.
Do the keyfit22 and the keyfit30 bases interchange? That might be another factor if you use more than 1 base.
Yes, same base.
This. L was so much happier in the conv. seat.
