Baby Names

Hart as a middle name question

Hello!

DH and I are having a hard time coming up with a boys name.  We have our girl picked out, Kathryn Hart (Hart is my mom's maiden name and we want to honor my grandpa as his name won't go on).  Is Hart too girly for a middle name for a boy?  Some of the names we kind of like,

Logan, Blake, Jake, Grayson, Michael

Thanks for your help!

Re: Hart as a middle name question

  • ...I think Hart is too girly for a boy. What was your grandfather's FN? MN?

  • I do think it is too girly for a boy- you'd have to explain to everyone why it is what it is, and still, it's gonna stick in their minds as Heart.

Unless you name him Brett, and then people will think it's a tribute to the Poison lead singer. **Meant to be cute, not snarky and unhelpful**

  • The only Hart I know of is a man. Hart Hanson is the creator and executive producer of the TV show Bones. His full first name is Hartwick. Definitely use Hart as a mn on your son if you like. I happen to really like it!

  • My grandfather's name is Norman Eugene, two names neither of us really like, but we're still thinking about it.

Eugene would make a solid middle name, IMO. Eu- means good and gene has obvious meaning - basically it means "of good stock/genes". My half sister's half sister has a son whose middle name is Gene.

  • yes, i think hart is too feminine.
  • It's a surname; it's not feminine.  I happen to think it would make a great MN for a boy.

  • I don't think Hart sounds good with a male name, but that is just my opinion. I really like your idea of incorporating family names. I always like to combine family names...write them backwards and so forth to see what I came up with. Writing names down on paper always helped me out.
  • I think Hart is fine for a boy. Like pp stated it is a surname which makes it masculine. I like it as a mn.
  • Hart is actually a very masculine name.  I kinda remembered it from a lit class in college.  It's an old English term for a stag/male deer.

I think you're good either way if LO is a boy or a girl.

  • I think it's fine. It's a surname-- it's gender neutral. I think it'd make a great middle name and a great way to honor your grandfather and your mother.

As an aside, even it it did have a slight feminine edge, would that really be so offensive? People give girls masculine names all the time-- I don't see the difference.

    Ditto this.

  • I went to college with a guy named Hart and it worked for him.

    I also like Blake.

  • I think Hart is just fine for a boy.  I like it, and I love that it's a family name.

There's a bumpie on 3-6 with a son named Hart, and I've always thought it was really cute.

The only Hart I know IS a boy! He's in his twenties.

I think its a great mn for either gender!

  • No, I don't.  If it was spelled Heart, then yes, but Hart- not at all.  I love using family names.

  • I have known a man whose fn was Hart, so I especially do not think it's too girly for a mn.

  • My family name is Hardt and we'll definitely consider this if we are team pink.  But I don't think it's too girly at all for a male mn.  (We have a boy's mn already picked from his side of the family).  My brother's middle name is out great grandma's maiden name Valentine- which I do consider a bit girly but that's just me.
