Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Solids and formula ?

DD has been eating two "meals" a day for the past week. Her "meals" consist of 2tbls of cereal with a 1/2 jar of fruit or veggi. She's only drinking 20-24oz of formula now that i've started feeding her solids. Is this enough formula?

Re: Solids and formula ?

  • I just got a thing in the mail from Gerber that says 24oz a day for formula/BRmilk but a lot more solids were added in there. it outlined a day of eating for a baby and there were 6 meals total which all had solids or a snack like puffs.

  • I was told that anywhere between 28-32 oz is needed and to push the milk and not the food. Babies' nutrition is still coming from formula/BM and solids are there for new textures and taste. I agree with adding in more snacks.

I agree - I was just posting what gerber sent me. My Son does not get as much solids as gerber "said" babies should get. More milk is better!

OK- glad i asked this question! Maybe i should offer her less food each "meal", that way she'll take more oz each feeding maybe?

I would cut back on solids so her formula/milk intake is larger!

  • eh, don't go too crazy over it. my LO typically drinks between 24-26oz formula/day, regardless of how much solids she eats. sometimes she'll drink more, sometimes less. i went nutty trying to figure out how to cut back on her solids so she'd drink more formula, but it never happened.

i say follow your LO's cues. yes, milk is important but if she is greedily chomping down her solids, i don't think you're overfeeding. 24oz/day of formula is a good goal. good luck, mama!
