Hi Ladies -
Have any of you had any experience with natural childbirth at Clear Lake Regional? If so, would you mind sharing a little about your experience? Were you able to have a hep lock instead of full IV? Were you able to do intermittent monitoring instead of continual and move around the room? Any advice you can offer?
Thanks so much!
Re: Natural Childbirth - Clear Lake Regional
Hi Irish -
I have yet to work with a woman who chose to birth at Clear Lake, but, just some encouragement, you can refuse anything that you don't want. Please remember that you hire your doctor and it is your health care.
It can help to write up a birth preferences and talk with your provider ahead of time with it so that you can discuss any disagreements regarding your care ahead of time. It will also give you a heads up to their expectations, policies, and protocols regarding routine treatment of women in labor and during birth/postpartum.
Have you thought about having an advocate for you there? A doula, close friend, or non-biased party who is not affiliated with the hospital? They would help you to achieve your goals and desires, reminding you of your patient's rights.
Most hospitals in this area don't require continual monitoring unless baby is showing some signs of stress. And IV vs hep-lock truly differs from care provider to care provider.
Good luck!
