Who Wants to be a Model?

My sister and I are making some woven wraps to sell at a local tradeshow this weekend. We want to make a small sign to have on our table that shows a woman wearing a baby. Anybody feel like sending me a photo? Let me know!

Re: Who Wants to be a Model?

  • Are you planning on featuring a woman wearing a wrap of another brand? If so, I would advise against it.

I work in wholesale and this is considered an unacceptable business practice. (It also, nothing against you personally, annoys me because I had to chase a company in South America that was using our lifestyle images in their tradeshow booth.) Perhaps I have misunderstood your intentions.

  • Hmmm, I have considered this, maybe not as much as I should. I guess since it is just a local tradeshow and we are not an actual business I didn't think it would be a problem as long as their was no brand showing?

Anyways, I am reconsidering that maybe it would be best just to take our own photo with one of our own wraps. Some of the ladies on here have such nice pics already, that's why I asked.

    Thanks for the head's up.

No problem. I think that from a consumer/buyer's POV that it would be great to feature your own wraps. That way if someone says "I want that one!" they won't be dissapointed. GL with your sale! Also, just throwing it out there, depending on how common wrapping is in your area a "live demo" might draw some attention.

  • As someone who has done a bit of work with marketing, I don't recommend using a picture of a different product than what you're selling with a few exceptions. If you are planning to use the pics as examples of what you can do with the wraps (i.e. different carries) then (IMO) that would be ok, but I would put a small disclaimer.. Also, like pp said, if someone asks if you have that particular one, you would need to explain why you don't.

DH has a friend who has a landscaping business and he passes out a postcard with a 2/3 pics of houses & their front yards. My BIL's house is on that postcard. but the friend didn't do it. My BIL did all his own landscaping. Would you want to hire this guy knowing that?

Some people are more sensitive about it then others but to me, it wouldn't be worth losing sales when all you have to do it take a few pics. Maybe you have someone who can help you to model the wraps that you have made. Ditto the "live demo". I think that's a great idea. Good luck.

I worked with the company SnuggyBaby at a Chicago Baby Expo (the bump was there actually) The owner asked if I would come and help as I'm a co-leader of a group out here. I wore Trevor the whole time in a wrap or ring sling and did demos all day long.  If you're going to sell, you want to make sure they walk away feeling like they know how to do a basic fwcc. Also if you have a local bw'ing group, try to get some cards from them and pass out the card.  That way your customer will feel like they have a resource to go to.  I even went so far and gave a couple mamas my email.  Also, please try to figure out the weight that your wrap will go to and if it's a gauze or stretchy please make sure they no not to do back carries in it.

Good luck and hope you have fun!!  While the two days I worked the expo were extremely exhausting I had an amazing time.  Just seeing the look of moms, dads and even grandmas wearing for the first time is a great thing

  • Ditto PP's

We sold Pouch slings for a while. We took pictures of our slings for the main advertising picture, but then (because I was pregnant at first then had a snuggly newborn) we did use pictures in a book that we only showed to interested people that had other photos in it. We clearly labeled at the slings shown were NOT our slings though. In all honesty, BWing is so null and void around here I doubt we even showed the book.

I haven't done any shows since I had K where we sold the slings, I'm sure a TON more people would have at least looked twice if I'd had her in one!
