So I went for my cervix check up with the specialist on Wednesday (I had been discharged from L & D saturday night). The first pic the u/s tech got showed a large black tunnel where my normal closed white cervix was - said it appeared I was 1 cm dilated! We were freaking out, I was trying soo hard not to cry, I knew I hadn't been flat the whole time, but I had been taking it easy, resting, no exercise, etc. The specialist came in and rescanned - said all looked okay, he didn't see any dilation on the scan. He suggested it was either the angle of the picture, a contraction, or who knows, but it was okay. Of course - this left my husband and I freaking out - what if I really WAS dilating or something?
So, luckily the specialist is on the 1st floor of the same building my OB is in - so I immediately went upstairs to talk with the nurse and/or doctor. They were amazing. The nurse took me back within a few minutes, listened intently, and then immediately made us an appointment within 20 minutes, and we saw the same Dr that took care of us in the hospital. They rescanned us (about an hour or less since the last scan), and said that not only did my scan look good, but the Dr said it looked better than in the hospital, about 25 mms!! He advised us to stop seeing the specialist, they'd keep track of things upstairs (We were getting so confused between the two diff. docs), so I go back next Friday for my next checkup, as well as my 26 week check up. Oh, the OB also did an internal manual exam (my first, ugh...), and said that it was definitely 100% closed, but that it was a bit soft, but not unexpected considering everything thats going on.
He also wrote me out of work until AT LEAST 28 weeks (March 2nd). So I spent all day making calls, getting my short term disability and family medical leave act in order. On a good note - I may be able to get some paid time off donated to me from other staff at the hospital
to help make ends meet.
I found out today my Reverend put me on the church prayer list (me and baby, I should say!), and I know that prayers are so powerful, and I've already had people call to offer their help. Sorry this is so long, just wanted to keep everyone updated!
