Curious Financial Question (Debt Related)

So many of us mentioned using our tax refunds to debt. I am just curious where people stand debt wise? We set a whole bunch of financial goals for this year and I am just curious of where other people are too. Do you have debt? What kind? Mortgage, car, cc debt, SLs? If so how much (range)?

We talk about it frequently on the Money Matters board on the nest but I was just curious how new Mums are as well!

Just mortgage.  I am not saying how much.

Us too.  I will say that we have over 50% of our mortgage paid off but won't give figures.

  • I personally have my student loans which are about $30k and one credit card with a balance of about $1k from maternity leave.  That will be gone when I get my tax return.  I paid my car off before we had J.

    Together we have our mortgage

SO has a couple credit cards in his name.  No school debt.  Lucky duck.

  • We have a mortgage, some student loans, and some medical bills. That's pretty much it. We don't have any car payments or credit card debt, and we're trying to keep it that way as long as possible.

This. All vehicles, school loans and medical expenses paid in full other than mortgage.

ETA: We have no credit cards.. I worked at amex and it scarred me for life and we'll never use a credit card again.

  • We're paying off one of DHs student loans. So then all we'll have left is $7,000 in student loans, my car and our mortgage. We've never had any CC debt.

  • We have a mortgage and SL's.  We have the cash to pay off our SL's, but our loans are only at 1.75% and we are making 10-13% each month on our index funds, so we're only paying the minimums each month.

  • We have a mortgage, student loans, and one car payment. We recently bought a new receiver and blu ray player, and just bought a new washer/dryer on  store cards (all zero percent financing) so we have a little credit card debt right now too.
  • We have zero debt, but are currently renting until we get Navy orders later this year.  I paid off my student loans before LO was born (did it in 5 years and am so proud!) and both our cars are paid for.

  • We hit some financial trouble after #1 was born...so we have 1 car not paid off, a bit left on my student loan (probably $4000) and sadly we have some CC debt.

DH started a new job recently and we've almost cut our debt in half in 5 months.  We will likely be completely debt free in 6-8 months and have enough saved for a down payment on a house in about 1.5 years (we really want to put 20% down).  We also set up 529's and increased our Life Insurance.  We are thankful for this new job and the financial freedom it's given us!

  • We have about 30% left on our mortgage.  Other than that, we have just my student loan and one credit card that I am paying off this month (from a trip we took in Jan).  But, with two kids in full time day care, I feel like I'm in swimming in debt, even if I'm not.

  • Just our mortgage.  We pay off our cc's every month, pay cash for our cars and anything else that pops up.

  • SO owes about $3000 on his vehicle- no credit cards, student loans

I have about $800 in cc debt (that will be paid off when I get my tax return) Big Smile

We rent right now and are currently in the market for a house, but we are picky so I think it will take us a while til we find the right one.  I will feel a little stressed when we do have a mortgage though cause I will feel like I am in debt.  Just trying to think of it as an investment rather than a debt I suppose. Right?!

  • Student loans, mortgage, and  DH's car payment (which will be paid off next year). I haven't had a car payment in five years, and I love it.
  • just mortgage and a credit card I pay off each month.

  • We have a mortgage which I think of as an investment (gotta pay to live somewhere), 2 car loans- we just bought a minivan for me after we had the baby, and we both have Student Loans, but relatively small considering we both went to private colleges and had room/board.  We always pay our credit cards off each month.  I guess its a lot of debt when you add up the numbers, but we don't have any trouble paying our bills, and we put money into our savings every month in addition to our 401ks and 529.

  • Credit cards - maybe around $1000

Medical bills from the last year - still to be determined - between $1000-$4000 perhaps

    Our Mortgage

I've used Money Matters in the past - I need to get back on board.  I've been half doing it - but I need to do it all the way.

  • We have the mortgage, my student loan, one car loan, and some CC debt.  The CC debt is really the only thing that bothers me, and it will be paid off with our return.

  • The mortgage, one car payment and a very minimal CC

it comes out to less than $160K

We'll pay off the remaining medical bill with our refund and finally be able to spend the rest on the house this year, yay!

  • We have our mortgage and a loan on one of our cars.

  • We have about $160,000 in student loans (both of us went to law school).

    We have a hefty mortgage.

However, we do not have any other debt.  We purchased our cars outright and pay off our cc's every month.

  • We have a lot of smaller debt, but even though they're small, they bug me.  We have a truck payment, a couple of credit cards.

We also have a mortgage and student loans, which don't bother me as much.

  • We have no commercial debt- cars are paid off, etc...

I have about $10,000 left in my Master's Degree student loan that needs to be paid off.

We have about $220,000 left on our mortgage to pay off. We bought our house last fall so that will be a while!

We don't spend our tax return on ourselves, we'll be investing it in our daughter's future via gold/silver.
