My Doc said at least 18 months, she is trying to get VBAC"S approved at my hospital. This might sound bad but I'm counting down months until we can start trying again, I love DS to pieces but feel like I missed out on a really big part of the whole pregnancy, his actual birth! I'm trying to just concentrate on him right now and enjoy every minute of his babyhood (he is 4 1/2 months) but I really want to start researching this all out. Any good books or anything I can start reading?? Did your OB's have restrictions for you?
Re: How long after c-section before number 2??
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
We got pregnant with baby #2 when my son was 9 months old and I freaked out because I thought it meant I would get in trouble with my doc.
He said it's absolutely FINE! He just recommends that your DELIVERIES not occur within a 1 year period. Everyone I've talked to has said that 18 months between deliveries is just fine!
I wasn't given a restriction at all. At my 8-week PP appointment, my doctor asked if I wanted to get pregnant again right away. I was shocked! I did want closely-spaced siblings, but 25 months is as close as my body wanted to go. I had no PP AF before getting pregnant again. Good luck!
I could have written this post, except my LO is only 2 1/2 months old!
My OB wants me to wait until LO is a year old to start trying, just to make sure the scar is as strong as it's going to get. He prefers 18 months between births. He said if I got pregnant when LO is 9 months old, I would still be a candidate for a VBAC, but he prefers a year just to be on the safe side. He also said that after about 6 months, the scar tissue is as strong as it's going to get, but he likes to err on the side of caution.
That sounds like a dream come true!
It has to do with scar integrity and risk of rupture, but it doesn't mean that you can't attempt a VBAC before that. Rach03k here had a successful VBAC with her second son when her first was about a year old.
