So excited about recent baby purchase

Last night I bought tons of stuff for cloth diapers and I am super excited.  Can't wait to get LO here and put her bum in some cute fluff.  Anyone else start ordering their stuff yet?

  • It is very hard.  I've been guilty of baby ordering for awhile, but recently took the CD plunge.  I love waiting for good mail to come.  :)

  • I've been doing great stocking up on newborn apparel at great second-hand stores. As for CDing, I recently made some purchases at a local CD shop. I am cautiously excited -- the stuff is super cute but I'm still not 100% that CD will work for me. Plus, I spent $130 on a tiny little newborn stash, so I'm hoping it's money well spent!

  • We started buying a few items just a couple weeks ago.  We also did a CD order that arrived last week.  I'm pretty excited about CDing.

This week, I hope to buy a few more items, so we can get working on the nursery.

  • I'm nervous CDing won't work for us either, but I really did my research and I think most of our complaints could be solved.  I also tried to make it as easy as possible (like AIOs and OS after the newborn stage).  I don't think I have a CD shop here.  Jealous!  I have hit up our children's consignment and scored some awesome deals though.  :)

  • I love getting fluffy mail!  It's so fun!  I've been trying to slowly get our stash stocked up over that last few months.  I have been checking out babysteals, babyhalfoff, ecobabybuys, etc for deals and jump on them when I see something good.  We also have a local CD store here (Eco-POLITAN) that I've stopped in a few times already.  They have some great stuff and it's nice to have somewhere to go with all my questions.

What brands are you guys going with?  Are you doing PFs, pockets, AIO's...?

  • I am addicted to CD shopping already and it is quite scary. We have almost completed our NB stash! I just need to get two more xs thirsties covers and a dozen infant GMD PFs and I think we are set! I can't pass up a good deal either, so we are almost completely set for the small stage too. Fluffy mail is the best mail, even DH gets excited!

  • I bought everything when I was in the US for Xmas because stuff is so much cheaper there. Including my entire CD stock, prefolds and covers and pockets. I may start buying some fitteds but I can see that becoming an addiction. I'm trying to not spend much more money until he's born. Embarrassed
  • For the newborn stage I have:
-BG bamboo fitteds in xs (the ones that were discontinued years ago, but Cotton    Babies found a few boxes)
-BG 3.0 AIO with aplix in xs
    -KLOs
    -Prefolds
-I still need some covers...maybe thirsties?  Haven't decided on that yet.

     After newborn stage I have:
    -
Flips (ordered half with stay dry inserts and half with organic inserts to experiment)
    -BG Elementals
-Not sure what else I am adding here.  I am going to do the JD trial at this stage so I may hold off on anything else like fitteds until I find what I like

I just googled and found a CD store in my area...can't wait to visit.  They even do a class which I definitely want to sit in on (despite my hours of internet research).  What did you guys add so far?

  • My DH has been on call so he doesn't know about our recent CD purchases, esp since I bought our nursery furniture 2 nights ago.  He might find out about this one in a few days when he sees how cute they are.  :)  I'm glad to hear the guys get excited too.  He's happy to CD, but he hasn't done nearly as much research as I have so I'm hoping this works well for us.

I'm on fence about fitteds too.  I just don't understand the GM drama.  I know they get good reviews and they are cute, but I want to avoid that scene at all costs.

Oh, I just remembered that I also purchased cloth wipes, the Planet Wise pail liners, and 2 wet bags for the diaper bag.  I wonder if 2 is enough?  Are you guys CWing too?

  • I am going to attempt to make a few cloth diapers. I really want to try to do only cloth diapers but just do not see it happening. I figure I will make a few and give it a try.

Mad props to you.  I don't even own a sewing machine, though learning to sew is on my long list of goals.  Hope it goes well.

I am staying away from the GMs as well, I can just see myself going downhill VERY fast! I do always keep an eye on HippieMade store on Etsy, as she makes some WAY cute AIOs that I am super excited to try. She doesn't have anything in her store now as she is finishing up soem custom orders.

We are CWing as well. I made my own. Here are pics of a few I have done, I think I have 32 total and still have more flannel to make more if I need to down the road, but I think I have enough right now.

  • MH is excited about CDing too.

I am going to try to make some CWipes and see how that goes. If it doesn't go too well I will buy some. I don't think they will be any harder to just add them to the diaper laundry so I don't see why not to do them.

I got the Thirsties covers, not that I have tried them to tell you how I like them.

Oh and I don't get the GM craze either. There is an European (or it might be Australian) brand that everyone on the IN nest board recommended that I am thinking of trying.

  • one of my friends on another message board made some and I am totally inspired. My mom has been a seamstress since she was 14 (she is 80 now) and I always was working on something with her. Anyone can sew. My mom has a sewing machine that cuts and sews at the same time (babylock) and someday it will be mine! it really is pretty cool. I wish she lived in CT and not NH so I could use hers but I am going to use my MIL. this will be a fun project!!!

That's why I need to learn how to sew...those are adorable!  And I bet they were a heck of a lot cheaper than the ones online.  Did you back the flannel with anything like terry?  I'm going to visit my family soon and they can walk me through this, I'm sure.  What stitch did you use?

We are at heart Coloradans. I was born and raised in the tiny town of Salida. I went to school at UCCS in Springs. We moved to NM for my job but are strongly considering moving back to Sprigns within the next year or so. We really like it there, but I have to say I don't miss all the yucky snow!

We were just in Springs this past weekend and stopped by the Cloth Diaper Mart, they have a FB page too. I wasn't too impressed with their selection, as I thought they carried brand names (FB and BG) but they don't. I know there is another store there too, but I don't remember the name.

I honestly think it would be more a pita to use disposables.  I know I am in such a habit of stuffing the wipe in the diaper from the tons of kiddos I've changed until now.  I don't see that stopping.  And then you would have to have a separate trash can for the wipes.  I'd rather just do it all together.  Plus, all the reviews say they wipe up so much more than a disposable wipe.

Thank you! They were simple to make. I bought the flannel at Joann's on black friday for SUPER cheap! Both sides are flannel, if I had dont even more research prior to making them, I would have probably used terry on one side, but oh well. I cut them 8.5x8.5, put the patterned sides together, sewed around except for about 1.5 inches, turned it inside out and then sewed the outside. My sewing machine is a very very basic one with only a zig-zag stitch, you just control how tight you want it. It worked perfectly for me.

  • Eros, your stash looks good.  I was just reading up on the BG xs and it seems to be a trend that they don't fit little ones for very long if they are 8+ lbs. I had bought 15 of them and just returned 9 because my DS was almost 9 lbs. Kind of a bummer, but oh well.  I guess it's something for you guys to consider when stocking up on xs and itty bitty newborn dipes.

I have most of the diapers we used with him (thirsties fab fitteds in xs and small) but I'm adding more fitteds (Mutts, BSRB and other misc) and then plan to use the BG AIO in size small before we start using our stash of BG 3.0's from my DS.  I have a friend that is redoing the aplix on most of my diapers and they look like new :)

Pockets are my preference, but I still love my fitteds for nighttime.  You have to be cool with using a lot of wool/fleece etc or using covers which can be such a PITA.

And the GM drama will fade. It was like this back in 2008 when I was pregnant with my DS and then she started stocking regularly and the drama faded off.  Now that she's doing limited stockings again it's gotten all crazy. And I'm sorry, but I side eye anyone that pays more than $40 for a poop catcher.  Some of the auctions on Spots Corner are freaking insane!

I love the Springs area.  We are up there every summer at least once.  It's gorgeous.  You should try to visit EP when you come to Denver.  It's family owned and operated and all the ladies that work there are great.  Willing to answer any questions and just chat.  It's nice.  I stopped in there a couple of days ago and ended up talking with the owner for abour 30 minutes.  Good people.  And they have some good sales too.

We are starting out with Bummis PFs and Thirsties covers.  We also have some Happy Heinys & FB pockets, and Eco Bums AIOs for when the baby is bigger and has outgrown the newborn stage.  We are hoping we can still use the NB PFs just as an extra doubler by trifolding.  We will see if we have a heavy wetter or not.  That plan might not work...

Do you recommend that I get some BG fitteds in small to bridge the gap?  When I was reading the weights it seemed like xs and os would be good enough, but maybe I should add some while they're on sale.  Also, do you find it cheaper overall to do sized diapers?  To me it seems like you have to buy so much more, but as I've never cloth diapered anything, what do I know?

I think maybe some BG AIO's in size small might not be a bad idea. Maybe that's what you meant?? It says on the site that xs fits 6-12 lbs, but then I read this thread.  I also read some reviews on Diaperpin and it seems they definitely don't last to 12lbs. Bummer.

And I personally love the OS diapers.  I'm only did/am doing sized AIO's or sized fitteds for the smaller stage, and then I will move on to the OS.  I have some of the BG AIO OS organics from awhile back that I love as well as my 3.0's which I adore. I bought a 3 pack of the new Elementals to try out, but otherwise my stash is pretty set.

I didn't know about the BG bamboo fitteds until last night either.  I guess they were discontinued a few years ago and Cotton Babies found some boxes to sell.  The girls on the CD board and some old internet reviews seem to love them.  I got some xs already, but I'll just add something in a small...either the fitteds (https://www.cottonbabies.com/product_info.php?cPath=51&products_id=2814 or 3.0s.  Thanks for the help!

  • Oh, I do remember those now!! They are a lot like my Thirsties fitteds, but the Thirsties are cotton terry, not bamboo.  I think you'll like those a lot, but again the AIO's might be a better option because they are cheaper  (on sale for $9.95) and they don't require a cover.  Just something to consider, I guess.

  • I'm going to the CD store in town this weekend while DH is at drill.  That way I can look around without him being bored.  Depending on their prices, I'll get some things from them or order online in the next couple weeks.

    I'm so excited to CD!
