So at my appointment today my doc set my induction date for next friday. Well, I go in thursday night to start cervidil sp? And then pitocin friday morning.
I know that going into natural labor before thursday would be ideal but can any of your ladies tell me if you went through this and what was it like?
Thanks!
Re: Induction date set--watn your experiences
OK, pitocin contractions were very painful for me. I told them this time if I was given pitocin then I wanted an epidural- I had one last time, but had been very adimant with my midwife that I didn't want one and ended up begging for it since I was so strong before.
Labor went in about 9 hours from start to finish, so that was good and pushing DS out was amazing.
I had cervadil started last Thursdayat 9pm and it actually started continuous contractions literally one minute after it was put in. It put me into labor on my own without the pitocin. The nurse said this can happen sometimes while some women never experience that.
They broke my water at 11am and the pain got too much to bear so I had an epi which slowed down the contractions too much so I had to have pitocin anyways. Even with the epi I would feel some of the contractions as if they were like BH so I cannot even imagine how painful it would have been without the epidural.
Before the pitocin I was at 4 cms for a long time though and once the pitocin hit I was dilating a cm every hour (which is normal) and then I went from 6-7cm to 10cm in half an hour (which the nurse said is normal to skip at that point).
I was induced using a Foley bulb and Pitocin. After the Foley bulb was inserted, it took about 12 hours to dialate to 5 cm and I was pretty crampy all night (started at 6 pm). At 6 am, we started the Pitocin and my OB broke my water. My contractions were manageable until about 2 pm, when they started stacking due to the Pitocin. Even though I was at 6 cm, my contractions were less than 10 seconds apart and sometimes didn't finish before a new one started. It was awful, but as soon as I got the epi, the pain vanished completely. I was dehydrated and the epi cause my blood pressure and heartrate to drop, and the baby's heartrate became really irregular. I was on oxygen for about 3 hours and pretty out of it. At 6:30 pm, they told me I was 10 cm and ready to push. I felt "normal" again during pushing because they turned down the epidural a little bit.
All in all, it wasn't awful, but it isn't something I'd necessarily choose again if I could avoid it.
