bloody gums

So DS has been working on cutting his top 4 teeth all at once (poor guy Sad) The top left middle tooth came through as did the tooth next to that but his other front tooth just has an opening in the gum where it looks like a tooth broke through but there is no tooth to be seen.

I've tried feeling if there was a tooth under the gums but I cant feel or see anything. Last night when he was eating a cookie I noticed he was bleeding...and quite a bit (IMO). Enough that his fingers were bloody from putting the cookie in his mouth, his lips were covered in blood like he had red lipstick on and I could see that the blood was actively flowing from the opening in the gum where the tooth has yet to come through. He didnt seem to be in pain so I chocked it up to the cookie just irritated the gum tissue but then today he was bloody again when I went to get him out of his carseat after our dr's appointment. He hadnt been eating anything this time.

I know some bleeding/irritation is normal w/ teething but I never imagined it would be this amount of blood. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this something I should be more concerned about?

Re: bloody gums

  • Hmm, I would be concerned about that.  I have never heard of that much bleeding (or really any bleeding with teething).  I would put a call into the pedi nurse line and see if they think you should contact a dentist.
