Gymboree?

Any moms/dads take their kids? Opinions? I took DS for a trial Play and Learn class today for 6-10 month olds and he loved it, he didn't stop smiling, laughing or kicking his legs in excitement the whole time. The bubbles at the end blew his baby mind! Just wondering what other parents thought before I shell out the $68 a month. Does it get old?is it too "corporate?"

  • I think it's overpriced for what you get.  Ben just did a 4 week art class there, but that's only because I bought it as a Groupon deal and it cost less than half of what they usually charge.  We've also done the free open gym class and it was just ok.  I think there are other places you can go where your son will get the same kind of experience and you'll spend a lot less money.  Not sure where in PA you are, but if you're in/near Montgomery County, I can give you some ideas.

  • Thanks for the feedback- we're in Delco if you know of anything nearby. So far all I have found are some local music classes, but I think I prefer the gym type class for his age.

  • Also, I think once he is 1 we will have more options. I just found a few gymnastics facilities that have classes for 1 and 2 year olds, plus my local Y has something and we are joining soon. Maybe I will just do Gymboree for a few months, he will be 1 in June.

  • We love it! Charlotte has a great time everytime we go and we've been going for about 4 months. I agree that it is a bit pricey and we were lucky to get a Groupon which helped cut the cost a bit. But, we both love it! I met a really nice Mom and we take our girls to lunch after class - that's a bonus for me because I didn't have any other outlets to meet Moms prior to going to Gymboree. I like how the teachers talk about developmental steps the kids are going through as well. I do have to say, that I am sure this is all dependent on the particular location you attend and the teachers.

100% ditto that. I did the groupon for Gymoboree. I did it with Gisele when she was 2.5yr just go she could actually get something out of it- and i think it was VERY overpriced. There are much more affordable things to do with a baby (especially one as young as yours).

  • I think its overpriced.  I do see the appeal when you have such a young one and dont want then surrounded by larger kids though.  We go with my moms group every month. Its $5-10 depending on if its open play or a class.  I have found so many similar things that cost much less.  One of our local parenting resource centers has a class VERY similar to what they do in gymboree and its $4.  We also do open play at a gymnastics center which is $6.   Shelling out all that money and then feeling obligated to go to the classes isnt my thing because our schedule changes alot

  • I take my 2.5 year old every week and he still loves it. As they get older, the teachers try to incorporate more imaginative play into the routine, which is nice. It is pricey though. But I'm sure you know that as a SAHM, it's hard to find enough activities to keep them occupied during the day! So I figure it's worth it.

  • I take DS and we love it.  However, I do think it's overpriced.  I haven't really been able to find anything else for his age, but when he turns 1 we'll probably stop b/c I know there are a lot more options available then.  Plus, we live in a kind of rural town and our park district doesn't have a lot of baby classes.  Once I can find other activities that I think he and I will enjoy just as much for less money we won't go anymore.
